What kind of metal you like and why ?

Bull, fucking shit.

You must have the musical sense of an 8 year old then. Name me one fucking band that has written anything similiar to this:

Christ, opinions are opinions but man. What you just said almost made me lose faith in humanity.

They're a fucking prog band, you can't make a full opinion on them before listening to how the progress (ie: in a whole song). For instance when I heard someone say "I dont like Opeth because they growl" I facepalmed by face off.

Well, me, I like Prokofiev and Beethoven ^______^ So I guess half of the world has a music sense of 8-year-olds by your definition :hotjump: As for faith in humanity, I never had it to begin with

Don't get so upset just cuz not everyone likes your fav band. Opeth is kind of decent (sometimes) actually. Nevermore, I just don't like the vocals, and it has that deja vu feel to it (that intro sounded like a total ripoff of some Led Zepellin song btw). The whole thing sounded kinda whiny, and the riffs reminded me too much of MPE (and MPE >>>>>>>>>> Nevermore IMO)

Also, I love Bal Sagoth, and if you want a good prog band, there you have it. I guess two people with two different musical backgrounds could never agree. I have a classical upbringing, so I tend to look for something that feels original to my ears.

If you'd simply said "I don't like Nevermore" then I'd be fine, I wouldn't give a shit.

But claiming that they aren't original is rediculous, imo anyone with any knowledge of musical composition who had listened to them properly for an extended period of time would never say that.

That was all i had to see to not read further on your post...

I guess, if you can't read anything more complicated than smilies...

If you listen to anything for an extended period of time, it starts seeming special. It's on the first few listenings that you form a first impression though.

I would agree on that Nevermore is original even though i don't like them. No one is 100% original these days anyway so saying "THATS RIPOFF OF AMG LED ZEPPOLIN" is just stupid.

You really are a slimeball,eh?

You really are a slimeball,eh?

Sure, thank you =))

As for, "no one is 100%" original, that's not entirely true either. And that is, once again, a matter of opinion as well. Paganini was writing variations on popular music themes of his days, so you could call him a rip-off artist as well. And his caprices are some silly etudes anyways, right?

Not to mention their lyrics are more meaningful than most other metal bands I've heard.

Well, some bands concentrate more on lyrics, others don't. Lyrics don't have to be philosophically deep to be good, they need to fit the style, as has been proven by, say, Rhapsody.

Mors Principium Est, Rammstein, Aria (RU), Devil Doll (Slovakia), just to name a few bands with very good lyrics.

I'lla ddress this all later I have to go out, but  Dude to me, that song really, really fucking sucks... sounds whiney... also is like the bastard child of an Iced Earth and an Opeth song.

I deleted the posts from the flamewar. Let's keep this thread on-topic please, I don't think the creator of the thread actually enjoys that fact that some people are having a flamewar/are arguing in his/her thread. If you want to argue, take it to one of your own threads or keep it private, thanks.

I actually noticed the Iced Earth similarity there... mainly with the vocals though...

NWOBHM/Early 80s metal mostly
such as Diamond Head, Motorhead, Mercyful Fate, Savage, Sweet Savage, Saxon, Iron Maiden, Budgie...

Also some thrash, melodic death, power, folk, and viking

That would make sense but wait, are you the guy who likes Blood Stain Child and Norther?
Saying NVM riffs sound like MPE is also pure bullshit, just like the way you try to introduce in this conversation your "classical upbringing".
The only clone here is MPE, sorry but I've already heard all of MPE's stuff in old Arch Enemy/Gothenburg. Just listen to the intros of MPE's Fragile Flesh and Arch Enemy's Bridge Of Destiny... that may be just one riff but it already gives you a good idea where they get their "inspiration".

^ I'd say more, but since about 2 pages of this bullcrap have been deleted, I think it's about time to stop. Besides, I don't have time for this today like I did yesterday... There has already been enough talk about originality, and the final conclusion to that is in my signature.

I'm only going to say that I like both MPE and BSC for their integration of techno and trance elements into metal on a larger scale, and MPE also for very good lyrics. And Norther, I only listen to their first abum anyway. Finally, in case you were too late to read my last post, was merely messing around :)

NWOBHM :kickass: Iron Maiden is pretty awesome. You should also check out the Russian band "Aria", their albums 1993 - 2004 are quite kick@$$

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I shall repeat the question that got caught up in the war and deleted. Anyone here like gothic metal? Like, Lacrimosa, Tristania, Theatre of Tragedy, Macbeth etc. ? I find these bands quite awesome.

w00t ! I created a wonderful thread here :) *is proud*

BTW who here LIKES angra ? particularly their Temple of Shadows album ? I don't wanna read people saying ``ANGRA SUCKS BALLS `` cuz that was not my question. thx.

Angra has one or two good songs per album, some of them are great, like Carry On or Make Believe, but in my opinion they don't have any good overall album.

For example, Angels Cry contains Carry On, one of their greatest songs, yet the rest of the album is boring and predictable.
