What pisses me off

Call me un-learned whatever but i thought when you get married to a native so to speak , you somehow gained residency?

Not in Australia I don't think, thats the US.

You can apply for a specific type of Visa and I think your more likely to get one when you get married to an Australian citizen though IIRC? Someone should probably correct me if i'm wrong :)

yeah. I had to apply for a temporary residency spouse visa (which serves for 2 years). then when the 2 years are up, i get the permanent residency, then 3 years after that, i can apply for citizenship.
also, they made me get out of Australia to apply for the stupid visa. they sent me to a war zone just to do paper work. great, GREAT system!

So much for go kart racing plans :(
[edit] Fishing/camping trip the following weekend sounds better anyway :kickass:
[edit 2] I forgot Stormy's idea of a weekend away begins in the middle of a normal person's working week :([/edit2]

the filter at the new workplace means this is the only forum i can access out of the 10 or so that used to keep me sane at lunch :waah:

i'm actually contemplating buying an ultra cheap bass to keep here at work so i can do some scales during lunch.. something else ultra rivetting!!

nothing better than reeling in a big stingray then trying to get the fucker off ur line at 2am with torches that have nearly run out of batteries

What are the updates, Sabine? Have they contacted you? I say fucking get out of there and go somewhere else, any other country even if it's not Aus. Can you do that?

nothing yet :s the 9 months are up on October 16 and I'm reaaaaally hoping they contact me before the end of September because that's when the shit is really going to hit the fan here... the presidential elections are due then and we're expecting people to kill eachother in the goddamn streets.

Something hit me this morning.

A year since the death of Steve Irwin.
6 years since the World Trade Centre plane bombings.
10 years since the death of "Princess" Diana.

Such morbid milestones against which society measures the relentlessness of time. These are all events which feel like they occurred not that long ago to me. Makes one feel... disconcertingly mortal... to put them into a chronological perspective.

I can actually remember exactly what I was doing when all of those happened!

I'll tell you what though, I'm getting really sick of the Diana coverage on the tv. They've been pushing for over a month now that it's "ten years since we lost an angel" etc etc
