Tomorrow I'm recording a proper metal outfit with a female vocalist. She's clean the whole way through, no growling. I've never been in this territory so I'm hoping for a little help here.

I'm planning on testing all my mics on vocals, but generally speaking, which mic should I expect to sound the best on her? This is what I plan on trying:

sm57 and beta 58
a large diaphragm condenser (AT4040)
a couple inexpensive small diaphragm condensers (nady/shure)

Probably won't get to vox tomorrow but I'd like to test em out then if I have time. Thanks for any other tips.

:)

btw in my experience LD condensors sound great on clean vocals, but you have to watch the high end post...maybe throw on a de-esser. they can really bring out sibilance.

edit: the mic can really bring out the sibilance that is..not the de-esser ;) hehe

No offense, but this recomendation is sort of a side step from the 4040 he already owns.... Besides, while it's always nice to have more options I think he wanted a choice from his current mic list.

But I work for Studio Projects. Fargain HAHAH
