I couldn't find much just looking around, but is there a general idea in this forum of the best speaker for recording metal guitars? Obviously its only 1 of many in the chain link, but I'm curious to see which has been proven the best for general metal.

Day-um! V30 it is! I have a Super 65 right now... Im guessing that would be worth upgrading?

Also, how these do in a live setting? I assume they are still the preferred choice?

It depends on your head. I find the V30s a bit bright myself, compared to a G12T or H

Yeah, rumors run rampant that Celestion makes slightly darker V30s specifically for Mesa, and even if it's not true, they certainly won't be any worse than regular V30s, so you might as well! (find 'em here)

I can vouch for the Avatar Hellatones if you buy non-Mesa Celestions. They are simply broken in Celestions. If you peel the Hellatone decal off you will find the Celestion decal underneath.

I run two Hellatone 60s and two Hellatone 30s in my cab. I dig it!

Heres another question:

For recording, I can't honestly think of any good reason to go with more than a single speaker in the properly build enclosure. Can anybody give a good reason to load up 2 or even 4 12"s? You only mic one speaker anyways, so output isn't going to be a whole lot different on the mic end, not to mention cost savings, cancellation issues, weight/size/mass, etc.

Am I thinking correctly here?
