if i don't put the ring down, it stays there... i come to my room (i live in a rather small apartment) and start relaxing and... BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!!!!!!! Lid and ring down, as it's the only way a toilet looks remotely presentable. Nobody wants to look inside a toilet - why leave it open? I don't leave the lid to my garbage can open, either.
