Where'd all the signatures go?

smokers in third world countries is actually increasing because there are no bans on ciggie advertising and that smoking is actually considered cool and hip - something that was employed over here during the 1930's to 1960's films.
It's still like that in the US though. You have to read the small print in the magazine ads to see the warning signs, but otherwise you'll have some good looking chick smoking a Parliament on the beach, or some rough looking dude in a cowboy hat smoking a Marlboro red on his ranch.

I don't smoke, but I love it when I do. I want to go to the pub, have a beer/ale and enjoy a smoke. Or I want to go out to a massive steakhouse, eat a nice porterhouse, drink some fine Merlot, and finish it up with a Marlboro light. Doesn't ever make me want to smoke 20 a day. I never got to that level of addiction, but making it illegal to smoke in the pub is nuts.

Btw, a doctor once told me that if I smoked 6 or less cigarrettes a day, he wouldn't even consider me to be a smoker. I probably smoke that much per year, heh.

In the UK we have cigarrette cartons in which 1/2 the length of the packet is dedicated to a warning sign: 'SMOKING KILLS' in a black box.
Yes, that's the same thing. As I said, EU directive. Also, Sweden has banned the usage of the "light" or "low tar" on cigarrette cartons as it's considered misleading because research has shown that "light" or "low tar" cigarettes are still as harmful. The tobacco companies' response was basically to change the word "light" to "white".

I remember reading once that "lights" were even worse than 'regular' because people would just drag harder, and the tar would settle at the bottom of the lungs quicker.

A "light" cigarrette just has more holes in the filter. I remember people ripping the sticky part off from a Rizla paper and taping up the holes around the ciggy butt just to make it more 'normal'.

Light smokes suck, bad flavor.

I was always a big fan of Pall Mall filterless, which probably explains my addiction and need to quit. One drag on those is like half a pack of Marlboro Lights.

That doesn't make any sense, unless you're smoking straight to the lungs like a bong or something. I always smoked to the mouth, then inhaled from there.

I meant in the US. Magazines are the last savior of smoke and alcohol advertising (excluding beer and wine, because where would the world be without Coors Light and Fetzer? :Smug: ).
huh? every night when I watch TV, I see countless commercials for Crown Royal, and many other whiskeys.

The best beer commercial is the "Wingman" one. I think it's Bud Light, but not sure.

As for smoking, I wish Houston would pass a similar law like they have in New York. Second hand smoke is just plain annoying. Take it outside. I've never been a smoker, but I have tried it, and found it quite appalling. Still, smokers are funny people, especially when they complain about not having any money (seen it with my own eyes), yet one smoker can literally spend thousands of dollars on cigarretes per year. It's like they don't see smoking as an expense.

You know, that's very true. It makes no sense whatsoever therefore. Heh, funny that.

I didn't think they were allowed, I've never seen one. Maybe that's just another dumb California thing. I could go for some Crown Royal right now.
