You know I just realized I've been browing Swedish tobacco websites that discuss their products. Ever go to a USA tobacco website?
http://www.rjrt.com No adds for cigs, no product information, just a bunch of health crap.
http://www.philipmorrisusa.com Similar, but at least they have a section that explains how they package their smokes.
These are the official websites of the two largest tobacco companies in the US, and they have to market AGAINST their own product.

Hmm. Well, in Sweden, for one, there are large SMOKING KILLS labels on cigarette packs, it is illegal to do any advertising for tobacco, and it is illegal to do any advertising for alcohol unless it has an alcohol level of less than 3.5%. The snus pages do have a disclaimer on the front page that says you must be 18 to read the tobacco information -- not advertising, mind you.

Huh. I guess the world is dumb then. At least magazines are free to advertise what they want still, lots of tobacci and alcohol there.

I meant in the US. Magazines are the last savior of smoke and alcohol advertising (excluding beer and wine, because where would the world be without Coors Light and Fetzer? :Smug: ).

It's an EU directive. It doesn't really say "SMOKING KILLS" here though obviously, it says "RÖKNING DÖDAR".Ayeka said:

In the UK we have cigarrette cartons in which 1/2 the length of the packet is dedicated to a warning sign: 'SMOKING KILLS' in a black box. Smoking does kill and cigarrette related illnesses is another burden on our already over stretched health services. As residents in the 'educated Western World', we are all aware of the dangers of smoking and so the number of smokers are actually decreasing conversely, smokers in third world countries is actually increasing because there are no bans on ciggie advertising and that smoking is actually considered cool and hip - something that was employed over here during the 1930's to 1960's films.Erik said:It's an EU directive. Can't smoke anywhere in California, even many outdoor places now. Everyone on the planet knows how dumb California is, except those that reside here, who act as if it is common knowledge that The Land of Smog and Stupid Laws is paradise. :Smug:
