Maybe I found someone who will buy my mackie onyx 1640, so I have about 1K for new mobile setup.

I´m thinking about the

M-audio 2626

or

Focusrite saffire 56

Any opinions about mic-pres and how they work on a mac book pro 3.1?

have the focusrite, its amazing.

recorded 2 bands with real drums, some neumann kms 184,
i 5, sennheiser e 902, 906 -> sounds very very nice !

maudio is cool because of the mpowered pro tools option.

i did a comparison of the modelled saffire liquid preamps...
they all sound very similar and in no way like the original,
still they sound pretty good !

no idea on the mac thing tho...

dcb so you would say I should buy the focusrite?
It is worth the 200€ more?

And I use logic 8 (in the near future 9 so no need for the pt LE stuff)

Why does the smaller focusrite unit doesnt have 2 adats?

Melodeath please make a detailed comparison of both units, this would be AWSOME!!!!

What about the latency of the Liquid Saffire 56? Can I use software monitoring without problems?
(for drumagog, some vocal effects....)

The_Shred I love the Api, Millenia, and NEVE of the clips you have made. Thanks for the effort this should me how great this unit sounds!!!
Thanks bro

Well, I'm using a Profire 2626 with a Macbook Pro (a bit newer, I just checked and mine is 4,1) and it's been really solid. No complaints. Mic pres sound better than in the FP10 I used to have, and it's nice to have the ADATs and the ability to use this as an ADAT pre, which I think is pretty cool, so I can still keep using this as a mic pre & secondary interface with the ability to run PT when I eventually upgrade! Can't comment on the Saffire though, haven't tried it.

So nobody uses a Focusrite liquid saffire 56 with a MAC????
I realy need your help, because I need a good sounding, flexibel, and STABIL interface!!!

I want

2xAdat
Wordclock
8xmic-pres onboard

and 100% MAC compatible

sorry for pushing this

No worries dude :)

Oh dudes I heard from a pro-engineer that he fought endless battles with the saffire 26. He had to change it 3 times and in the end he bought the M-audio 2626.

He is also a mac user.

Damn!!!
I realy like the focusrite, and the soundclips are great but this mac thing sucks.
And the support doesnt write back:(
Ok send my questions on Monday...

cheers

I had to make a similar choise recently but instead of the Focusrite Saffire 56, it was the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 I was up against... with the other choise being the Profire 2626 of course. I'm not sure what the difference are between the Saffire 56 and the Saffire Pro 40 right now, but I know the Saffire Pro 40 had 8 mic pres and bla bla so it was kinda comparable to the Profire 2626 but it didn't have the option to hook up more Saffire Pro 40 into it to expand the number of channels, which the Profire 2626 can do.

So anyway, I searched the net and it didn't take me long to find people on various forums saying that the M-Audio Profire 2626 works flawlessly while the Focusrite stuff had their share of problems... apparently much more problems than the Profire 2626. I haven't gotten my Profire yet, still waiting for delivery but I hope it'll work as good as people claim! And as for latency... well, even though I'm still not convinced, people have told me over and over again here at this forum that the Profire 2626 will let you monitor with software amps and stuff in "basically" realtime. Oh and I also bought a new computer specifically for the Profire 2626 with a Gigabyte motherboard and Texas Instruments chipset and a Q9550 Quad Core... fuck this is going to be so sweeeeeet, so much CPU juice! :D

I've got the Saffire 56, and I am very pleased with it. Used it for a recording a few weeks ago, and the pre's are very useful. So are the Liquid-stuff. Used two API-emulations on the toms, and they sounded very good. Did not get the chance to A/B with a "regular" pre, unfortunately. I also recorded some vocals using the Neve-emulation and a Shure SM7B, and again it sounded VERY nice. Very reliable on PC, don't know how it works with Apples.

There's not too much in it to be honest. Really with the Focusrite you're paying extra for the Liquid preamps, but with the money you'd save by buying the 2626 you could pick up a second hand RNP or something (though it obviously doesn't have all the different flavours of the Liquid)

Focusrite has the edge as far as the liquid preamps go, the normal pre's are probably very very close to whats in the Profire, maybe slightly (and I do mean slightly) better as Focusrite have more history in making preamps compared to M Audio.

Profire will allow you to run Protools if you so wish, and its more stable from what everyone on here is saying.

Thats all there is to it really.
