Hey guys! I am looking into getting a new Mic Preamp. Trying to keep it under $1000 if possible! I really only need a Single Channel Preamp. I found a few I MIGHT get and will list below. If anyone has ANY feedback on these or know of others I should look into please let me know!

I am using them for Vocals and Guitars and DI Bass. I do Metal but lately have had a LOT of "Hip Hop" kids come in and "Rap" (they pay money, so whatever lol)
So I would like it to be versatile to many different instruments and different types of vocals.

But like I said, if you use, have ran into these, or have any other suggestions in a possible price range, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

THANKS!

I'm loving my audient MICO - $660

2 channels with awesome A/D conversion and digital outs

Yeh I used the ASP008 for a long time (same deal but 8 mic amps) and its very hard to beat. Phase invert, high pass filter and selectable line level on every channel. Instrument level on the first 2 channels too. The mico has similar features as well as some other harmonic generating thing that is probably very cool on the right source.

My roommate has the Daking MP One and it sounds good enough to make my next major purchase the 4 channel version instead of getting an API 3124. He also has the Mico and that's a great preamp with A/D, but I still prefer the sound of the Daking. I can't comment on the others, but I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.

Of the ones you've listed I'd go Daking but the Great River would be my true first choice in that general price range. It's also worth considering the BLA API clone.

http://baeaudio.com/ makes some nice single channel 1073 clones that would be in your price range. Maybe worth looking at.

Personally I went the API Lunchbox route and started out with the Shadow Hills Mono Gama. I'm assuming most guys here would say go with an API 512 instead. That will put you around the 1k mark as well, and offer the option to expand more later. It can be addictive though, so be warned on that drawback.

YES! Can't believe no one else recommended BAE stuff.

If I only had one channel of great mic pre I'd use a Neve 1073-type pre, and BAE's replications are top-notch. The one-channel 1073 is around $1000, it's called the DMP.

It doesn't matter which one you pick but DON't buy the UA one.
I just can speak for the Twin-Finity(for UA hardware) but this thing was my biggest dissapointment, gear-buy-wise.

Dunno, but it was muffled, cloudy and the Valve range was just unusuable.
Haven't heard a preamp which coloured so much in a bad way.

I (personally) can recommend the ISA, a preamp for every purpose, from Snare to Gits to Di's...
Love it.

(+1 to API, gasing soo long for a Lunchbox with a few modules...)

Oh, and a little note to the UA "quality"(and again:just the twin finity): There is no such thing.
Cheap(and I mean CHEAP) plastic knobs, bad potis and a cheapo overall feel.

Im a little torn now between the DMP and Daking. Leaning more towards Daking only cause I can get Daking from a retail store and if anything goes wrong I can return it if I dont like the sound without to much trouble...

Its SUCH a hard decision.
