Who has built a 1176?

Loren Littlejohn

Lover of all boobage.
How much did it run you?

I'm thinking of doing one with the hairball kit but wanted to get an idea of what I would be in it for.

I was thinking of doing it in stages as well over time since it's the first time I have ever done something of this size (I've done other shit, just not this "big" if you will).

Any info would be cool.

ive only ever done pedals myself. but i'm sure if you take your time, and dont rush, read everything carefully you should be fine. might try one myself actually!

As Rich says, I did it. I went with the Rev J one as it was the most recent revision that had been out there and was apparently quite close the 1176LN that's out these days.

As you're in the states, it'll probably run you less than it ran me. I think it was between £300 and £400 for mine all in. I didn't get the Hairball case, I just found another 2U case and bought the faceplate. I did mine over time as well, I ended up doing nothing to it for about 5 or 6 months, but it's up and running now. I'm possibly going to do another one in the future. I bought doubles of all the components in case any of them were duds, so may as well put them to use.

I've used it on one track of vocals so far as I've not really started a project since I got it finished. Sounds nice and it's good to be able to twiddle some knobs instead of using the mouse.

Think I'm gonna build myself one of these over the next few months as I've just managed to get a full time job. Also looking at SSL Compressor and Trident EQ builds aswell! Going to be DIY'd out my nut!

It's better to take ages and get it working than rushing it and running into all sorts of problems. I had a couple of issues (despite taking my time) but it was an instructional thing rather than putting things in the wrong place :)

The SSL build interests me greatly.

Andrew P Glover and I are in the middle of building a stereo kit - we'd be done by now if it weren't for Hairball's stereo kit not just being a simple 2x Mouser cart list of the mono 1176 builds (and the fact that I'm out of the country and he's on tour), but that's another story.

It's been pretty easy so far, things are really color-coded and paint-by-numbers style.

I'm going to be building a mono Hairball 1176 when I get back, I anticipate it being supremely easy.

Dude let me know how it goes. I'm not gonna be ready to do this till next year, but if shit goes ok I might get the board and populate that as a start.

Are you just linking them together via the stereo link deal? Seems fairly straight forward, but IDK.

I know I'll just be building a single 1176 to start.

I would LOVE an ssl comp let me know what you find kev.

Would love to try something like this out but haven't done much of this at all - would probably be safest with me starting small. Any recommended small basic/starter kits? - guitar pedals, etc..
