Michael Romeo
Yngwie Malmsteen

My vote goes to Romeo. But a good arguement would be that Yngwie invented that who 6 string yngwie sweep. Is that even true?

Romeo. He's a more varied player and a very good composer/songwriter, he also picked up where Yngwie left (technique wise)

Romeo is not just better, he is the BEST, but Malmsteen is the MAN too...

Romeo is better than Malmsteen.

But Tony Macalpine is the best.

But I must say, even though Macalpine is better, I enjoy Symphony X much, much more.

Who is Tony Macalpine?

Tony MacAlpine is one of the best guitarists ever (don't forget about his piano skills). He has a lot of solo projects, and also plays with CAB and Planet X. He played with Vitalij Kuprij on his album VK3. Check him out, I highly recommend it.

And regarding this thread, I'm kind of sick of constant comparisons of all the guitarists in the universe, but...Romeo wins without a doubt, he completely destroys Yngwie in every department. Yngwie's songs with lyrics are all cheesy, his instrumentals are good though.

What is shredding? Sorry for the stupid question.
I'm not a guitarist, so...

The term is used on guitarrists that play at blazing speeds (with sweeping or Alternate picking), in other words ''shredding'' is ''playing fast''

Romeo has much better technique than Yngwie now, as Romeo has actually bothered to keep working on his technique, whereas Yngwie has wasted himself on Cocaine and degenerated into a lazy, sloppy and arrogant player. Back in the "Rising Force" days, they might easily have been compared, as Yngwies alternate picking was frighteningly good. And do not forget, he practically invented a style of playing that is used by tons of guitarists today in various forms. Romeo is one of them.

Don`t you know that Yngwie is a druggie? A friend of mine had a buddy that went to one of his concerts, and in between each song he would exit the stage and come out again with white powder on his leather pants. If you watch his "instructional" videos, you can clearly see that he has a very poor memory and trouble speaking. These are some of the debilitating effects long-term drug use has.
