Who is Having Success with Reaper 3.76 and Windows 7 - My Nightmare!

My problem with Reaper and Windows 7 is that certain plugins (GClip, LePous plugs, for example) all open in a separate window inside my FX window....which, everytime I close out a tracks FX box, and reopen it - I have to click "Show GUI" to get it to come up again. GRRR.

I have that problem as well. Not sure if 4.0 will resolve that, it's annoying but I got used to it quickly. For me, it's pretty much anything that's not part of Reaper's install - ReaPlugs and JS open fine, but any amp sims, anything by Bootsy, etc. all open in a separate window.

As far as latency though... nope. No issues at all.

About the floating plugin window; that can be fixed by selecting a plugin in your fx-list, right-clicking it, go to "Run as", and activate "Embed Bridged UI". It now works just like the native reaper plugins. It does for some reason become more crash-sensitive by doing this though, so if your reaper mysteriously starts crashing after this change, just disable the option again for that specific plugin. It is kind of annoying but you'll get used to it.

Can't help with the latency problem I'm afraid, no issues here :( Using Reaper x64 on windows 7 64bit with a profire 2626 without issues here.

Oddly enough, I'm running a saffire 6 on an i5 windows 7 64bit and I have no issues with reaper 3.76 and latency. The only thing that fucking grinds my gears to no end is the constant crashing when I try render. Oh man it burns me up. It'll crash sometimes 3 or 4 times before I get it to work. I was hoping that this thread would have something on it.

I recently "upgraded" from Windows XP to Windows 7, and most of my old programs work fine, but I'm having an issue, (along with thousands of other people on the web) when it comes to Reaper, Windows 7 and some god-awful latancy. I was using ASIO4All in XP, and it worked great, but now that I moved up to 7, I've had problems with compatability. First of all, my old soundcard doesn't have a Win 7 driver. Also, if you go on youtube, you get all kinds of crazy "toggle this on and disable that" crap. I just want to know if there is an interface or soundcard for 20 or 30 bucks that will work with Win 7 and Reaper without all the 3rd party crap. Or maybe someone can give ma an "apple", and I can dump this "pickle" I'm in!

My machine came with Windows 7; I don't use Reaper much but haven't had issues with it when I do use it. Do you think uninstalling and reinstalling Reaper would help if you've upgraded from XP to 7?

Also there are a few things you can do to help optimize your machine. This is from the Presonus website (I mainly use Presonus Studio One Pro) but it's applicable to anyone using Windows 7 (or Vista):

Hope this helps you some.

For me Windows 7 is really a NO GO for audio production... I have a ton of problems with my EMU 1212M PCI Card because there are now Win7 drivers. 64 Bit reaper is not working at all and if i want to use my pc for any audio outside reaper i have to set the sound cards bitrate to 48k... Setting up a dual boot system with Win7 and XP for all audio related works may solve your problems!

I've been running Reaper with no problems since Win7 64 launched. My only problems have been due to presonus drivers, but they were easily remedied. I suggest investing in a decent soundcard/interface.

Just bought a new win 7 compatable sound card, and will install it tonght. i heard that you must use the manufacterer's driver and not let windows try to install it's version.
Windoews woes - Forget Rupert Murdoc - I'm gonna hit Bill Gates with a shaving cream pie!

Hey, did you try ( Options / Preferences / Devices / ASIO Configuration ) and lower the latency?

Running Reaper 3.76 on Windows 7 BTW. (had 64 bit installed, bad latency issues with plugins)

Win 7 HATES ASIO4all - that's the problem, even though it worked great for me in XP I've tried adjusting the samples size - when I lower it- the latency is decreased, but the playback is jumpy - if I increase sample size - the playback is cool, but recording latancy is awful

BTW, does anyone know when Reaper 4 is coming out? Hope it fixes the Win 7 problem

Win 7 hates Reaper 4. Maximum crashes, I've learned to save every time I touch an FX button/every few edits.

Maybe, just maybe this issue is with software, incompatible drivers and/or incompatible components and not the OS.
It also sounds like you just upgraded over the XP install which is generally a bad choice with a DAW. Then using 3rd party driver written for a different OS driving a non-win7 compatible soundcard? There may be legit bugs but those are some pretty glaring operator errors.

Did a fresh install of win 7 professional 32 bit, egan - Maybe I can try 64 bit, but I'm running at 4gig of ram, and didn't want to needlesly run my apps in 64 bit (kind of a waste),
I'll let you know, after I install my new soundcard tonight, how it went

Can't afford PC with i7, i5, i3 just my good old perntium 4 at 2.83 gightz

I had problems with my Tascam US-122 L interface, it's a discontinued model, used the x64 drivers for the MK II 144 for a pretty good while, but lately, it just seems like it's shot it's wad....... Un-installing/re-installing the driver for the Tascam fixes it for a while, but always craps out.....Other than that, no problems really, had this pc for over a year now.....Using a Line 6 Guitar Port until I buy another interface.....

Gateway desktop, Windows 7
Reaper 3.76, Beta 4, both the 64 bit & 32 bit versions run fine here........
