who is your favorite metal drummer?

Mhmm I have plenty of favorites:

Bobby Jarz (Spastic Ink)
Mike Portnoy -Of course :)
Ed Warby- He's DAH MAN
Johan Langell- Pain Of Salvation
Jason Rullo (Symphony X )
Virgil Donati (If he counts)

If you want Prog/Rock/Jazz
Neil Peart- Rush
NDV- Spock's Beard (He's also a pretty darn awesome singer)
John Bonham :)
Buddy Rich- He's my favorite drummer of all time
And many more Jazz drummers.

Not really metal, but my favorite drummer of all times is Mr. Virgil Donati

I would consider him metal at times. Just listen to The Noble Savage or Clonus by Planet X. Granted, most metal drummers don't play 4/4 against 3/4 riffs, but he's still played some material I would classify as metal. :p

Three come to mind, in no particular order: Neil Peart, Martín López, and Jason Rullo. Not sure if Peart counts, though. All three have very distinctive styles, and complement their respective bands perfectly.

Virgil plays in Ring of Fire, which is certainly a prog metal band.

My Faves would have to be Christy, Donati, Rullo, DeGrasso, Portnoy, Stauch (who by the way has recently left Blind Guardian), Ward, and Benante.

shame on you guys for not mentioning Thomas Haake's name yet (Meshuggah). Whether or not you like Mesh's style of music, there is no denying that Thomas' playing style is incredibly original and his ability is nothing short of god-like. Just Listen to "I" if you don't think so.

Andreas Lill from Vanden Plas. He doesn't do anything fancy, but he has a great rhythmic hard rock style that I love. I'll take his solid, spacious style over some black metal blastbeats or insane power metal bass drumming any day.

I dunno about incredibly original, especially as I, as an example, gets boring after like 10 minutes, though he is definetly god-like.

As for my favorites (I'm not a drummer, so maybe I shouldn't say anything)
Gene Hoglan
Richard Christy
Dave Lombardo
Sean Reinert (nobody mentioned him?!)
