Karma through Ghost Opera all rule, and I guess you could try the Fourth Legacy, but it's really amazing how much they stepped up their game with Karma (which came out after) IMO

And truth be told, I've never heard any of their older stuff before Roy joined, but considering how I feel about Fourth Legacy (his first album with them), I don't think I'd care for them much...

99% certain the guitar tone on all their albums is the solid state Ampeg VH140C btw; never my favorite tone, but certainly damn good for a solid state head!

see the thing is, i dont even listen to the music i record. in my spare time i listen to bands like in flames, arch enemy, sylosis, dimmu borgir, kamelot, etc. etc.

I am perfectly capable of producing this type of music, as I feel a great connection with true metal style. This scenecore bullshit sure does pay the bills, but it doesn't feel very rewarding.

it would be really cool to hear you branch out into something different and, I'm guessing for what people expect of you, something unexpected

Maybe on Ghost Opera, but I don't think the amp even existed when "The Black Halo" came out (to say nothing of the earlier albums, and the tones all sound pretty similar IMO), and on the DVD he waxes about his great love for it (and I always thought the tones had a solid state sound to them)

Backing up Marcus here...on Black Halo and earlier, it was the Ampeg (so he says on the DVD). But on Ghost Opera, it just sounds more like a Line6 to me. But I have nothing to confirm that.

I understand paying the bills and having to choose between that and where your heart lays. IT SUCKS.

I am an old school metal head man, yet my cover band here in Vegas plays nothing but cock rock, and hair metal bullshit. I FUCKING HATE IT! but putting $300 a night in my pocket doesn't hurt. If I had my way we would be playing nothing but old school bay area thrash, but we probably wouldn't be making the money we do

I would say try contacting the band, or their label / management. See if you can get on with the band, and go for it. I would love to hear you do something more metal!

I say contact any one of the bands you would like to work with and see where it goes!

FYI - I hear Jeff Loomis from Nevermore is looking to do another solo CD, maybe that's a door into the CM family of bands.

Thats the difference between a real metal town like Philly and an "Entertainment" town like vegas

I do have to say the best show in my life ever was at the Troc in Philly, we played with Testament, and I dont remember if James or Smyth was playing We were one of the opening bands. I was a bit drunk and we didn't get to hang much with the guys from Testament due to media & fan club stuff.

The show was fucking amazing, the crowd was fucking KILLER! Its probably the best live venue I have ever played! The pit was insane all fucking night.

Band called Misery. We had a distro deal with Road Runner from 95 - 99 then got dropped. The band was more akin to stuff like Biohazard, without all the Rap crap. We were Thrashy but still had that groove, kinda like Pantera but more breakdowns.

But we did that show with those guys cause we knew the promoter and he hooked us up.

The just got picked up again actually, they are doing more "core" type stuff now in the vein of Sick Of It All, Life Of Agony. Its the reason I left the band in 2000, I wanted to do more thrashy riffy stuff and they were more about tuning to Dropped D and chugging out rhythms.
