Who needs drummers these days?

My god. I've always known that the Drumkit From Hell is good, but that it'd be this versatile...

(sounds like Meshuggah)

Guitars are real, drums are 100% programmed, with some effects added.

Rumpalit on perseestä (pardon the French... and I mean the people)
wow, this really sounds better than most of the drum-computers I've heard so far. but the more laid back "jazzy" and slow stuff still doesn't sound as good as if you've got a real drummer doing it, IMO. but I guess for black/death metal with blast beats and all that, it's perfect.

Yeah, it's pretty good. I downloaded it myself a while back. I guess you already know that it consists of some 1000 samples. :) just so you wouldn't have to use the exact same strikes one after another.

What program have you used to create drumloops and stuff. I got fruity loops few weeks ago. seems nice. any suggestions? :)

Sounded pretty authentic... Only the hihat sounded a bit programmed.
Maybe it sounded like Meshuggah because Thordendal played it ;)

Aye, I downloaded the first Drumkit From Hell a couple of months back, too. It's nice. :) If you took a closer look at the site you surely noticed that they're releasing a new DFH: Drumkit From Hell Superior. 35GBs of samples. :D

I've always used trackers. I tried CubaseSX with the LM-4 Mark II VSTi plug-in, but I'm so used to using trackers that I found MIDI programming to be too tedious for my taste. So far I've used ModPlug Tracker, but Renoise and Skale Tracker (aka "FastTracker 3") are good, too. Psycle Tracker is good if you want a tracker with proper VST(i) support.

I just discovered a very cool drum program that you can download at www.drums.sk . There's a sample of a metallica track that they programmed using the demo version of the software.

I sent a couple of emails to the guy who wrote it, and there's going to be some very nifty features in the next version, like a "randomize" function that will adjust the timing and velocity of each beat within set paramiters, etc, to give it an even more human feel.

You can import your own Wavs too, so it'd be great with DFH.

I use Cakewalk Sonar 2 with the DDR-008 drum machine plugin. Then I just load one of the "Drumkit from hell"-presets and toys around with it until I'm satisfied, then I program my drums as regular midi-drums, but with the sampled sounds instead. Works great.

I don't like programmed drums if it's possible to have a real drummer. they're OK for a solo project since the creativity will already be in one person, but I still think a real drummer can write music for drums best, and add creativity and uniqueness drum machines can never match.

Just an example, but Do you think Dream Theater would be anywhere near where they are now if mike portnoy played guitar and programmed drum machines?

well, all the drummers i know/i've seen are cute guys, it would be a pity leaving them at home... fans need some eye candy, you know :p

Doesn't sound convincing at all. Bass drums are clearly "dead", neither them nor crash or china have dynamics at all. We were "having sex" with programming drums and despite even Lee says it sounds cool I personally think it sucks. Of course finally drum machines will defeat humans, i have no doubts about that, but that will be physically and mentally distorted drumming, which is suitable for digital brains. The origin for the MIDI drumming is A PROGGRAMED NOTE, while there is A UNCERTAIN FANCY behind human drumming. Digital stuff is well shaped and defined, but it swallows all the tops of an analog thinking, technically thinking. We just found a drummer and all drum machines appeared to be laying in the corner like a usless rusting waste.

I hope they get it working like it should be...

I've heard a little song done by that thing and it sounded very good... yes, yes... hope they'll find a programmer to do the interphase...

My friend has an ace in his sleeve about this thing but it's too early to tell anything yet... I will advertise later.

"ace in his sleeve".. nice one.. :)

but how about vinnie paul.. or danny carey?? try to replace these guys with machines! :yell:

Well the truth is that programmed drums never beat the drummers.
Since the secret of music is that some person is actually playing it.
People want to go awe with "Ohh man that drummer is really good!"
could you imagine comments like "damn that drum machine is really fast and tight!" :p

So the magic in music is that someone actually plays it.
True.
