1) Emperor were the first EXTREME Metal band I ever got into...I don't count Cradle of Filth, even though Cruelty... is a cool CD.

2) Listen to Enslaved, and then you can consider yourself a Viking!! :)
"Fenris" from "Frost" has RIFFAGE!!!!!!

3) "I am the Black Wizards" has one of the most head bangable riffs ever made.

Emperor was f'n awesome. In The Nightside Eclipse is one of my top 10 favorite metal albums. The atmosphere created on that album mixed with the brutality and how they perfectly come together is unlike anything else I'd ever heard before.

Eh, I'm not really impressed by Emperor. I never really found anything original about their sound.

I'd much rather listen to Black Metal like Diabolical Masquerade, Immortal, Ulver, Arcturus, Borknagar, etc...

I have no problem with you not liking Emperor, and yes the bands you listed are very original especially Ulver and Arcturus. Yay Garm.

Yet I think you have your times mixed up or something when stating they are unoriginal, because sure there are a lot of bands that have a similar sound. Yet you must remember that Emperor had been around for a while, and all the similar sounding bands copied Emperor, not the other way around. When Emperor first released their music it was quite original sounding, it is just that everyone else liked it so much that these bands were heavily influenced by Emperor. So in the end I don't think it is right to deem them unoriginal at all, just because they are the origins of what one might now call an unoriginal sound.

Prometheus is an amazing album, THAT is how guitars are supposed to be used with each other. So much to learn from that album, it's still beyond my comprehension.

finally got around to getting some of their stuff, only heard 2 songs so far but they are awesome! is this what real black metal is like?

the first album is tr00 but there others aren't

in my opinion their last three were fucking amazing

btw, which songs did you listen to?

fuck, i think emperor should re-record in the nightside eclipse....the production is so fucking bad that you can't even hear anything. when the songs are played live they're fucking cool but you can't hear shit on the album.

Am I the only one whose favorite Emperor album is Prometheus?

:) No.

I'm a huge fan of "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" though, with the bad production and all. Just an incredible black metal album.

'Are you ready for something OLLLLLLLDEERRRRRRR?... let Trym introduce this one to you'

*drum solo ensues, starting off Night of the Graveless Souls*

Emperor a just fuckin classic man... Emperor are that fraction of bands that metal wouldn't be what it is without em.. they ARE metal, haha.

Prometheus is genius but I can only listen to it at certain times because I feel the whole thing is a crescendo, its too much for my brain to be taking in constantly, too much good musicianship... so normally I just chill out to In The Nightside Eclipse, which has my favourite tracks.
