I can't wait! I am a little bit pissed that they're playing the same night Anthrax will be at First Ave, but since Opeth is my favorite band skipping them to see Anthrax wasn't even an option! Anyone else on here going to this show?

Yeah, I think most of Minnesota would agree that the Quest is the best overall venue to see a show at! Not as good as The House Of Blues in Chicago:OMG: but it is the best setting in Minnesota for Opeth in my opinion!

The Opeth show at the Quest is an early all ages show. It will be done by 9:30-9:45 pm. The Motorhead/Anthrax show at First Avenue is a late (21 +) show. It doesn't start until 8 pm. There are two opening bands at that show. Anthrax won't be on until 10:15 - 10:30 pm. You should be able to make both shows if you want to. I know that I plan on doing that.

I'll definitely be there. I have my ticket right beside me right this very second. I'm so glad they're playing somewhere close this time too because the Chicago trip was a pain in the ass. Fifteen minute drives pwn.

First post, hello. Didn't know there were MPLS people around here.

For those talking about the HOB Chicago - FUCK YES - what a beautiful venue. I drove down with some buddies a few weeks ago for the Metal Gods Tour. Good time.

More on Opeth, I'll be there really early with my brother. He's wearing a long sleeved Orchid shirt and I'll wear a Vintersorg shirt. Oh yes, girl with brown hair. Come and say hello! :)

I was wondering how many people would wear an Orchid shirt tonight. I'll have mine on! I have long blonde hair and some people say I remind them of Peter Lindgren, if any of you guys think you see me, say hey!

I was there....any post-show thoughts?

It was my first Opeth concert evAr (sic!), and unfortunately I was a bit underwhelmed by the venue, those lovely blending guitars kinda faded in the mash o' doom. I think the mixing folk were prepared for a different type of band... It was also fun to watch them mis-time the lights: they were completely offbeat quite a few times. Quest, pah.

Then again, I have yet to hear a live venue I would like...seems like outside concerts work the best, although Dimmu Borgir were spot on in this complete hole in the wall in San Antonio, heh! I'm not a big concert goer overall, but this I could not pass up.

...also sad to hear no Damnation tracks - what's this about them coming back in July, eh?

Any details appreciated...

Personally (and this was by no means the Opeth's fault) I thought the Chicago show in January was MUCH better just because the sound in the House Of Blues is quite superior to that of The Quest. I also didn't have to nearly get into a fight with some "tough guy" who wanted to ruin the show for everyone by being the guy who likes to mosh when no one else is doing that. People like that shouldn't be allowed to see Opeth. If you want to mosh that's one thing, but when you're pissing people off who want to enjoy the show that's another. I took this guys elbowing bullshit a couple times, then gave him a few of my own, he didn't like it when it was done to him! He then proceeded to ask me to "go outside" during the middle of Advent, showing exactly how true of a fan he really was...Other than that it was still a great show and I loved when we all sang Happy Birthday to Martin, that was pretty cool! No surprises in the setlist, but I really didn't expect any either. I'm more excited to see them in July because that's when I'll get to hear some Damnation tracks. Lastly, did anyone else find it absolutely hilarious when Mikael was hearing the Opeth chants and said "just don't call us Otep"!!!!!!

I just liked the part when he said "We just stand here and play our music, sorry we're not like marilyn manson or something". I had to laff.

Where can I get the details on the July show(s)?

The only thing I know about the show in July (and this was from Blabbermouth.net search for Opeth and you'll find the article) is that they will be in Minneapolis with Porcupine Tree 7/26 and the venue is TBA.

I was planning on posting last night, but I was just too tired to post.

Anyways, I’ll agree with Triumphant Apostle that the show in Chicago was superior in both sound and the band's playing, but I think overall I had a much better time last night. The show seemed a lot more intimate than in Chicago just because the venue was smaller and I liked that a lot. Mikael made some really funny jokes and the birthday song was great. I pretty much knew exactly what they were going to play, but that really doesn’t matter that much. One of my main gripes about the show being too small, is just being so crowded by sweating, hairy metal-heads. Not my favorite thing in the world, but oh well. At the end of the show I felt much more satisfied than I did at Chicago and the fifteen minute drive home was great. I also got to shake both Peter’s and Mikael’s. So yeah, I had a much better time here than in Chicago. Also, I have tons of pictures of Lucuna Coil (the lead singer anyways) and Opeth. I’ll probably post them at one point. Oh, and if anyone is curious the set list was:

1) The Leper Affinity
2) Advent
3) Deliverance
4) The Drapery Falls
5) Godhead’s Lament
6) Credence
7) Bleak
8) A Fair Judgment

Encore:

9) Demon of the Fall

How typical, people bitching about headbanging at a METAL SHOW. Doesn't surprise me with the crowd I saw.

Anyways, to the guy with the Orchid shirt - were you the one that my brother yelled "you bastard" to or the guy we talked to on the way out? Or was there a 4th? :)

I'm not sure what's up with that either...where did you think you went to, the 5th by ol' Beethoven? Hmmm ;)

No, the worst part is...I quit smoking, and going to concerts makes me want one. Or a clove. Or a pipe. Or crack. Or something. Agh. :)

See you all in July for the Damnation concert, eh? :D

I was the one you guys talked to on the way out. By the way I don't know if you were referring to me or not when you were talking about people bitching about headbanging in this post, but the guy I'm talking about was not just headbanging, he was being a fucking prick. I don't mind it if someone wants to mosh or whatever, because I love moshing, but when I'm just standing there and he's elbowing me in the ribs numerous times it gets annoying. If he wanted to mosh so bad he should have went back in the pit with everyone else that was. Like I said, he did it a couple times than acted like a fucking baby when pushed him back a couple of times. I wasn't the only one either, when the guy left a couple people told me it was cool that I did that because he was being a prick. Anyway, it's not like we all haven't seen our share of jackasses at shows, I still enjoyed both Opeth and Lacuna Coil's sets so that's really all that matters!

Preach it brotha. :)

No man, I stood in the back after Advent (I still think Morningrise is the best, hee). My aged ears can't take the noiz, even if I do love it so. :D So I dig what you're saying...I experienced what you're talking about at a Type O Negative concert, so I definitely know where you're coming from - it's just not really unexpected, y'know? :/

Nah I was talking about that other guy. But I agree, there were a few guys there acting like real pricks, but that's to be expected unfortunately. I think I know those few that you were talking about. 2 songs in we moved to the other side and found a good spot.

I'm talking about just plain ol' headbanging. If you can't handle some hair flying your way at a metal show, then MOVE. And whatever you do, don't bitch about it.

Nah I was talking about that other guy.

I'll go ahead and assume you're talking about me. The reason I am "bitching" about it, is because getting some fat disgusting metal-heads hair and sweat juices all over my face while attending a show is not what I consider a good time. Of course, I do understand that is what to expect when I go to a metal show, but I don't see any harm in “bitching” about it.

If people want to head-bang, why don't they just go in the back and head-bang? It's not like they're watching the band play music, which is what I came to do, so why don't they just move to the back? It’s not like they care, they’re swinging their head around like a Neanderthal anyways. But I suppose that’s more “metal,” right? Just to reiterate, there is nothing wrong with bitching about it either.
