Maybe you just do not understand the lyrics.

Mmm, well, I'm certainly not going to say that I know for sure what Jonas was thinking when he wrote Criminals. I mean, it's fairly straight forward if taken literally, but really if even if the song is drenched in metaphor and is merely using the example of some guy going to the house, killing that person (after saying he was going to but the main character never believing him) and now in some type of epic fight to describe the ills of man kind and how flawed we are or what have you...well, man, I don't think it makes that line sound any better.

While I agree there is a beauty in simplicity, there are a lot of lines like that one in Jonas' lyrics that do nothing for me.
