it seems at a time when iced earth fans need a place to talk the most, they've shut down the offical forum with no explanation. Was it Neil or Jon who chose to do that? either way im pissed. Im glad i found this place to rant about iced earth now...

It was Jon's decision I believe. I don't think he wanted a bunch of shit-talking about him, the band or Matt going on.

It would be nice if they had their official forum here at UM, but I don't think that will happen. A while back, I posted on the official forum, asking Neil if there was a chance of it happening, and he said no.

Not sure about why it closed, but I think it sucked anyway, and I agree, it would be great if they could just have an official forum on UM, with a link to it from the IE page.

dude, i couldn't agree with you more. my goodness, i have never seen such metallica kiss assers in my life. i mean, they were all praising about how good st. anger was gonna be and how it would bring back the metal fans to the kings of metal and how everybody would be humble to metallica. damn, that place was just so blindly following metallica like a ho on a 60 year old cock with the money in his left hand.

IE is my favorite band but Neil is a dickhead plain and simple. If we see each someone is in trouble. I've long been a HUGE criticizer of his running of the site. therefore I was banned form the board there cuz I told him it sucked.

And yeah. I'm sure it was because of Matt leaving. Most bands do that now so they dont have to listen to the truth of what their fans have to say. Look at when Savatage booted Jack from the band for Patrelli.

if you don't mind me asking, is neil the webmaster or the message board moderator? also, when you told him about the current situation on the board, did yuo say it directly to him or as new topic/response to someone on the message board? and why did you criticize the site being runned? i mean, i'm not being stupid or anything like that, but i didn't had any serious problems on the site and i was just wondering what kind of problems existed on the board?

I think he is admin and mod. But I was criticizing his administrating of the site.

He never updates anything on it, alot of people have told me that it would be nice if there was a bit bigger viewing area, instead of the 4 inch scrolling one now. The was the forum was there was crap. Set it up as a VBB like this one and it would be so much better. Plus he and I got into it at Frozen Messages before.

He's the webmaster in general.

I think there was just as much St. Anger bashing there as I saw elsewhere; Neil just cut it off because of his board rules. In any case, I think this forum would be a great place if we could get people from the old board to show up. Great community, shite format.

you know what i found interesting, even though that i believe in freedom of speech (meaning that you are free to express both positive and negative comments about a subject), all of the st. anger was removed no matter how significantly small (the severity of the negative comment) it seemed, anybody who said st. anger sucked was liked mobbed. granted it is made very clear on the board rules, but you know what i find very interesting is that jon (schaffer) desire to be a supporter for metallica in a tour has really screwed his head in a way as a person, cuz he believes in freedom of speech and creativity, but yet, the message board is like a nazi concentration camp where you get dosed with hideous gas of nu metallica brown nosers.

Jon has said that he didn't want the official Iced Earth message board to become a haven for people criticizing other bands. I can't say I blame him, since for a long while, that's all that was going on. It has nothing to do with the fact that it's Metallica. Any thread that bashed another band was removed, plain and simple. He didn't want idiots posting negative comments about other bands, on the OFFICIAL message board. If you must bash a band, go to their official site and do it there.

And yes, I agree, Neil is a horrible webmaster. The official site is never, ever updated, and the content is really lacking something. He needs a huge multimedia section, and a new design for Christ's sake.

Anyone notice none of the pictures work, and under multimedia it still says videos I believe. He even took the tabs down and just linked to Abysslords page. Sad....

how bout a fucking actual merch page too? I've seen the Iced Earth girly shirts at concerts and I wanna get one for my girlfriend but nope. Cant fucking find em at IE.com.

Guys, Neil may not care about the website, but more importantly JON doesnt care about it. Jon just wants to write songs and he only uses the internet for email purposes as far as I know. He just doesnt think its that important to have a site thats kept up to date.

These days with forums and other websites we pretty much get all the info we need about IE, it would be nice to have the official site be somewhere we could get all that kind of stuff, but its not and I dont think that will change, Jons priorities are elsewhere :)

I guess he doesnt want more fans then eh? He needs to face it that the internet and computers arent a fab and can be a GREAT thing for bands to get the word out. If properly ran their site could get a lot more revenue for the band.

And while searching for a new guitarist, finalising the record deal, finding a new singer, writing songs AND opening and running a store, where would you suggest he find the time to pay for and complete a whole new website? :)
