how come gilligan never banged ginger?
how come mulder never banged scully?
did amott fuck angela?
how come micheal never banged lisa marie?
ect. ect.

That's not pop songwriting, that's just how a song should be written.
Most of extreme bands just glue together a thousand riffs in a non-sense logic to prove they're not "pop" and then the result is pure shit....

+1 BILLION - I'm looking at you, Between the Buried and Me...

Uuh... name one Death song that has that common pop structure?

Typical Death song would go like Intro (not always) - riff 1 - riff 2 - riff 3 - riff 4 - riff 5 - riff 6 - solo(s) - then again from riff 1, but 2-3 riffs shorter than first time.

Since you own every album from them maybe you should listen to them too?

Dude, Death has tons of songs with verse/chorus/verse/chorus - it can be a long song with many sections, but the point is that there's some repetition which is what we as listeners inherently latch on to, and every Death song I can think of has a memorable verse and chorus.

Songs like... can you name a few? Repetition doesn't make a song classic verse/chorus/bridge song. Like you said there being many sections itself makes it different and a more like progressive music evolving from part x to part y etc.

I'm pretty certain Mike and Angela are an item / married or something but just keep it quiet.
I might be wrong...I'm like 90% sure. I thought this was a pretty well known fact?

To name a few ones

- Symbolic Record -

Symbolic:
intro verse bridge chorus solo then verse bridge chorus outro .. it's simple isn't i?

Sacred Serenity:
Intro verse bridge chorus solo1 solo2 verse bridge chorus

Without judgment:
Intro verse bridge bridge2 chorus solo then verse bridge bridge2 chorus outro .. it's simple again...

Misanthrope:
Verse bridge chorus solo1 solo2 verse bridge chorus

go now and listen to those songs.
If you want I can post more stuff.

YOU should listen to death records....

Symbolic: missing 2 sections before/after "chorus", 2 solos and missing section before next "verse".

Sacred Serenity: missing section between "bridge" and "chorus".

Without Judgement: missing section between "bridge2" and "chorus", bridge3? Missing long section after solo.

Misanthrope: missing 2 sections before and after "chorus".

Sure you can make them simple if you leave out complete parts/sections of the songs or insert enough bridges in between so you can think them as common verse-chorus songs. You can also name those missing sections pre-verse, pre-bridge, pre-chorus or even bridge2 if you wish... Or could just think them verse-solo-verse, simple?

However, none of those songs are like (not even your simplified versions):

intro -> verse-> chorus -> verse -> chorus -> solo -> verse -> chorus -> outro

I agree, there are no rules, so a Death Metal Song, can be Pop structured or not.

Chuck had the ability to put a lot of riffs in perfect fit or harmony in one short song, to the point of sound catchy and very structured, just listen to the philosopher or lack of comprehension, those videos even got air play on Mtv

Andy, out of curiosity and since you put it that way, would it to be fair to say that you would or do listen to an album of a band you either recorded or mixed on a casual level? Such as a Chimaira or a 36 Crazyfists, etc?

I think that if Andy works 12-14 hours every day and lots of weekends too, there's little time for ANY casual listening. And when he has the time, maybe he prefers to enjoy himself some silence once in a while. :D
