sorry if this thread has been done alot, but im pissed. Is there something between symph x and dt that causes them to never play a sow together. If this is PROG power, i wanna hear some good ol' dt. anyone know why this is so?

yeah its been talked about for many moons. Dream Theater has been asked to play previous PPUSA's but the dates of thier tour did not fit the date for PPUSA, I believe thats what Glenn said anyway (please correct me if I am wrong). Also Glenn trys to get bands that have little exposure in the states, Symphony X has done 1 supporting tour and 1 mini headlining tour that they are on now. Dream Theater has been touring the world since '89,everyone usually gets a chance to seen them. So it's very unlikely that Dream Theater would ever play a PPUSA.

Wouldn't you rather have a chence to see a band that has never toured the US, we are getting bands like Nightwish,Vanden Plas and Rage, Evergrey ect ect thats what PPUSA is all about!

I am a huge DT fan but for the most part I pretty much mirror what everyone else is saying here. I have seen DT at least 10 or more times (ever since Images I have been following them) and that is not including the side projects. I think money and venue size is a factor but at the same time what is cool about these shows is that they showcase some of the best talent in the industry that you will rarely see play here in the states!!

I have a feeling this is going to be a kick ass show! I can check out DT during their next leg of the world tour or after there next album (which I hope is slight improvement over their last).

Cheers, Antonio :)

I don't think so. The 3 times I've seen DT were all at venues that held much much less than 1,500 people. They might get some bigger venues in Europe, though.

Dream Theater can easily sell out a 1500+ venues (of course sometimes it helps having good acts along the tour) and you are right probably a hell of a lot more in Europe/Japan and South America. The problem seems to be the money of course and couple that with the other great bands that are on the bill you almost have to add an additional 1000+ tickets to comepnsate for the venue! ;)

Good call, Bear. You can catch Dream Theater any time you want. I like the way ProgPower is now... bring bands to us that get very little exposure here.

Besides being very expensive, I seem to recall that Glenn once said that DT told him that they didn't play festivals. Hell, with all their side projects, and the new album coming in the next year or so, it shouldn't be hard to catch at least some of them at a show or two. :)

Dream Theater does play festivals, at least they have in Europe. But I do think they are a little too popular for ProgPower. I agree with every one else who said they would rather see little known bands that we wouldn't otherwise get a chance to see. Dream Theater is one of my favorite bands and I like them a heck of a lot more than Secret Sphere for example, but I'd much rather see Secret Sphere at ProgPower than DT. There are many opportunities to see Dream Theater play live. And unless they are co-headlining, they play for a *long* time too, which is awesome.

Well I have seen them here in the Bay Area 9 times and they have played huge Amphitheaters that hold 8000 people and The Warfield which I think holds at least 2500 so its can very.
