Why is being open-minded considered generally a good thing?

Shooter Jennings, Waylon's son, kicks all sorts of ass.

As do the Drive-By Truckers, who certainly share quite a bit with the world of country/western.

I don't simply dismiss genres, but this is the closed-minded world of RC, so....

Up until recently I hated anything even remotely connected with the hardcore scene, until one of my friends showed me bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Botch, Refused and Beecher, all of which I really liked.
Turns out I had just been hearing all the shitty mainstream hardcore, because that's what's popular, you know, all that sXe-anti-everything trendy shit that puts image over substance. Black hair and make-up and tight shirts and... ugh.

That's because you've heard and seen it before. You wouldn't be able to pass that judgement without ever having made contact with that "genre" at all, without ever having been exposed to MTV. That's what I said: You make your own experiences and decide for yourself if it's for you or not. I guess MTV pop-culture isn't for most of us, except Gugs maybe.
