Why no classics live?

I'm sure this has been discussed many times in the past, but I was just wondering if Symphony X ever plays any tracks from their first two albums live. I have seen them in concert a few times, heard the live album, and caught a few live videos. But I've never heard any tracks from their first two albums - or even some really cool tracks from the rest of their library, either.

I realize the first couple of albums aren't as well known as their newer stuff, but I adore some of those tunes and would love to hear them live one day. Anyone think there's a chance this will happen?

I seem to recall that on one of the special edition CD videos Russ and MJR address the idea of rerecording the self-titled debut, but dimiss it on the basis that they'd have to rework the songs for Russ. Perhaps that's why they don't do anything from that album.

Also, most fans are probably more familiar with their recent work, and unfortunately until Symphony X can command 3 hour sets, they have to play the stuff that most people will recognise :/

They've played Masquerade, The Damnation Game, Dressed to Kill, and The Edge of Forever live. However, they haven't played any of these songs for quite a while.

The Raging Season and A Lesson Before Dying would kick all sorts of ass. So would both parts of A Winter's Dream. Out of the Ashes and Pharoe would be bitchin', and it would rock to hear Dragon's Den, too.

And I've never had a problem with Shades of Gray before, but today I listened to it on the way to work, and the question suddenly struck me, "What the hell were they thinking?" I still enjoy that song though - can't bring myelf to dislike anything from Symphony X!

If I ever saw ANY of those played Live, I'd go off my bird.

They played In the Dragon's Den on their first tour (in Japan, right after Twilight was released). They have also played Out of the Ashes numerous times, most noteably on their first headlining tour after The Odyssey was released.

It is my understanding that the only time this song was played live was at one of the ProgPower fests. Not sure which one.

It was PPUSA2, in November of 2001, & it was awesome. :)
