better, i would like to know why we all know this recipe (distorted guitars, bass, drums...) as "metal". Why metal (from heavy metal and other metals: back, power, melodic...)? What's is the point, the deal with this word? Why this kind of music is labeled as metal? Who came up with this?

i know

a music journalist (a famous one apparently but i forgot his name) once described the guitar work of jimmy page, after having seen a led zepplin concert, as sounding like heavy metal falling from the skies.

it's true you know :)

I heard exactly the same, except that it was said about Jimmi Hendrix :p Whether I'm right or not is another matter ;)

Cause it is, heh. Why do they call blues blues? Why do they call jazz jazz? Why do they call funk funk? It just sounds like the right word to describe it I guess. It doesn't matter. Just listen, and bang your head!

His name was Allan Freed. Oneof my college courses is the history and sociology of rock music, we just talked about that last week.

It's just metal. There's more than likely some way that it came to be, but to me, it's just metal. I mean, I don't think we'd all have been so inclined to check it out were it called butt noise. lol...my favorite is black butt noise, but I'm also quite fond of melodic butt noise, and death butt noise isnt bad either....

If I remeber correctly, they (whoever they are....Judas Priest people on the Metal Works tape I believe) say the term Metal came from the fact that the sounds from the Metal Foundries in the Midlands in Britian were the inspiration for the style of music.
Loud, Heavy, and screaming...or something to that effect.
