Why?

Why do people post mixes in the rate your mix/tone section and say stuff like
"i don't really like this mix",
"i really hate the drum samples in this please rate",
"Got a generic tone from podfarm again", or
"my guitar is really out of tune what do you think?"

ok well im exaggerating a little bit, but just stuff nobody wants to listen to or rate or people need help with anyways it seems barely even worth it to post. i think posting a lot of this junk kinda makes me not want to come to this part of the forum. its like :Spam: or junk mail. i think it just directs attention away from the people that need help or fresh ears to listen to something before they print it. i only post things im really proud of like my current best mix or something im really stuck on at the time or something i thought was really cool but sometimes not even then.

not trying to be an ass, jerk or anything. i just really wish when i came to this sub-forum i found stuff people really needed advice on.

is it just me? am i being a huge douche lord?

whats everybody's thoughts?

sorry if i offended anybody! :)

This is exactly why I don't post much (or to be perfectly honest, read much) in the "Rate my Mix" subforum. It tends to be either ampsim/Superior demos, salvage jobs with crappy bands, or bad covers of even worse songs. :(

i agree on almost everything!

at least there are a few execptions sometimes,
so there is also good stuff you may miss,
if you "ignore" the rate my mix section.

cheers
S.

Totally agree. It's ok to have a so so mix if the poster has done everything he can to make it as good as possible. After all most people are here to learn something. But it doesn't help when they go 'it's out of tune' or ' shitty kick tone'. Wtf? You definitely don't respect your own mix, how do you expect anybody to respect it enough to listen to it? I'm not gonna listen to it if you've already said that it's shitty.

Still there are really great mixes posted here once in a while.

people have to start somewhere....im sure you didnt just happen to be automatically amazing at it jeff?

That's not the point at all - I do ampsim/superior writing demos all the time, but I don't post them because they aren't anything worth listening to. I do salvage jobs for bands and don't post those mixes, either, because it's not a great representation of my work. I've done decent covers of fucking terrible songs (youtube search for Soulja Boy gone deathmetal....), but I don't bother posting because it's mostly for fun stuff and again, isn't really worth doing anything with but showing friends for a laugh.

I agree 100 percent with this at first, when I first started here I posted absolutely everything I would ever do, like recordings of my overheads and just a bunch of useless crap, I feel like sometimes criticism is the only way to learn but at the same time I feel like people need to stop just throwing anything up and then being like y d0ez n00 0nez r@te miii mix3zzz. Post something your really proud of something you've worked hard on, generally the work will speak for itself I feel like most of the elite users on this forum avoid the rate my mix section like the plague and I'm starting to do the same

maybe there should be a rule like, 1 or 2 mixes a month, that might help weed out some of the crap in that thread :x

Well first of all , i have heard some amazing songs posted in the rate my mix section that i listen to all the time for the music not the mix... there are many good good good songs posted in there that ARE mixed with superior and amp sims ,becuase thats all they have or can afford or have.... so i rather stumble upon a sick tune mixed with superior and amp sims then to never have heard that song before!! i know many of you guys have found songs on the rate my mix section that you love to listen to for the groove of the song regardless of what it is mixed with ...........

post it in the OT section then everyone can have a laugh :D

I try to take a look through the RMM section regulary, as sometimes there's awesome stuff to be heared. And not listening to a mix in a post that starts with "I hate this and that/ this is out of tune / it sounds like shit" also doesnt take that long ;)
And I'm happy if I can lend a fresh ear to help someone improove their mixes, as it also helps me when I post something.
I also just try to just post "important" stuff or mixes that I think are good, or need help on some specific parts/fresh ears in general.
It's not hard to "filter" the 0815 stuff you dont want to listen to imo

I pretty much never bother with the Rate subforum at all.
The occasional time I do bother to check it out it's full of the same dreck that it was last time I checked.

Seems the kind of mixes that are worth listening to are being done by people who aren't wracked with self-doubt to the point that they need validation on their mix decisions.

Well that seems to be the obvious issue... some people use the "Rate My Mix"-section to have people actually listen to something they are particularly proud of and like to hear peoples opinions... other people use the section for general mixing help for learning. I suppose the only way to change that way of thinking would be to have two separate sections or something. This thread however should be in OT, no?

yes it could have gone there but i thought if its related to this sub forum maybe it should go here? feel free to move it :P

i think the problem is there is soooo much stuff people dont want to see in the RMM section most people don't even look at it anymore which is defeating the entire purpose of it.

i also see posts that end with superior 2.0 or SSD or PODFARM, not sure what people are trying to accomplish with this..

I discovered one of my favorite bands in this subforum; March Hare!
I guess there's no reason NOT to post up unnecessary clips.. each clip has its own plus point, for example, 'ooidort' posted a few clips som time ago.. n they were fuckin' god considering he used ampsims and addictive drums...

This isn't actually something that im thinking on my last wish when im dying. "i sure hope people on the internet stop posting crap, it would be so much easier buuhuu" Im speaking behalf of not stressing about it. I post shit all the time and i think it's pissed off many people. It's not so serious, i post 'em to my friends yeah yeah but still it helps more to improve my own mentality to see what people say or don't say about my own mixes. It becomes more better shit for some reason after posting a 1sec clip of donkey farting to a cube that's sm57'd through 6 angle. Point, none.
