Anyone here actually like 80s rockers WINGER? Believe it, or not, but their debut album kicks total ass. Reb Beach was/is a strong guitarist!

Kip is, for some reason, univerally loathed and ridiculed, but I'm not sure why?!?! Sure, the image and some of the lyrics are pure cheese, but the music on that record is strong!

"Hungry"
"Without the Night"
"State of Emergency"
"Hangin On"
good stuff!!!:headbang: :kickass:

Music was killer. I still can't play those songs from the first album like Seventeen or Magdellaine (sp?). Reb Beach's riffs and style is amazing and he was a damn fine soloist as well. Kip had an awesome range and wrote great melodies. I think half the issue with Winger was their pretty boy image and lyrics (duh) but they were definitely world class musically.

Kip actually played bass for Alice Cooper before starting Winger. Not that that really means anything. :)

Reb was the only thing that was positive about that band...
Did Kip really play bass?!
I'll leave it at that...

Sixx pretty much summed it up lol ... Kip looked like he was trying to do Ballet in the videos lol. hated this band.. but Reb had the makings of a killer guitarist.. he should of done it in another band... he would of gotten more respect...

Wingers 3rd album Pull is Fantastic!!! the 2 before it werent nearly as Good and Serious as that record ... Anyone who doubts this band had Talent hasnt heard Pull

Totally cheezy, teased-hair, tight pants pretty-boy bullshit - but a formidable array of talent in the band. I hate everything Winger stood/stands for (looks over substance and prancing around singing about underaged chicks), but I give credit where credit is due...Kip and a few of the other guys were/are talented. It would just have been nice if he would have done something aside from the glammy side of things...but I guess you seize an opportunity and make some big money while you can so you can focus on more serious endeavours when the fad goes away.

They also completely bludgeoned "Purple Haze" which was just wrong, talented or not - they did a horrible job.

They did manage to get a little better on their last album "Pull", but again - they never did it for me. Couldn't stand them then, can't stand them now. The world is full of talented musicians who don't really do anything that great.

That's my 2 cents.

You know, Winger never even made it on my radar, other than watching a few videos on MTV back in the day (when MTV actually played videos). They were pop metal, and I typically ran screaming from the room anytime pop metal came on. After reading so many positive posts regarding their songwriting, maybe I ought to go back and give 'em a genuine listen. I've become a bit more open-minded in my old age. Well, in some areas anyway.
