When's the new one due out, anybody know?
The Showdown is the third collaboration album between Masterplan vocalist Jorn Lande and Symphony X vocalist Russell Allen once again featuring Starbreaker guitarist Magnus Karlsson. It is a follow-up to The Revenge and is slated for a release on November 5, 2010 under Frontiers Records.
Is it okay if I admit that I've not heard a note of any Allen - Lande material?
Jorn yells out "Showdown!"
Russell replies with "Oh-whoa."
I get wood.
One day folks...one day I will get them both to the stage in Atlanta.
Interesting ... I'm guessing you and I don't hear the same thing on this disc.
In my opinion only Jorn's voice is worth writing home about. Then again, Jorn can sing the phone book and I'll be happy.
Russell sounds pretty "mediocre" here, and I found myself checking back to make sure it even was Russell singing.
And the songwriting - oh my - is beyond HORRIBLE! Really, it's soooo stupid to hear yet another Magnus Karlsson (or whatever his name is) penned disc sounding like a carbon copy of everything else he's ever done just with less quality to it.
The first A/L disc was pretty awesome, the second one was good - this one stinks.
I was VERY disappointed by this album.

I haven't heard the new disc but I can't believe that Russell Allen's vocals could be "mediocre". Can't happen with such a great singer.
And to start with, you say that you're not the greatest Allen fan so...
And I also have a hard time to believe the album stinks, as the first video (with only Jorn) is a fine song.
So Claus and Glenn, how have you heard this album already? Do you both just get sent lots of free stuff?
Well, we've had this discussion before - good singers can mess up, just like John West on that Feinstein disc (hah, I knew I could use that once again against you, haha).
Where did I say that? Right, I didn't.
It is a fine song, absolutely. Just a shame we've heard that song so many times before on the other Allen/Lande albums, on the Codex album, on the Kiske/Somerville album, on the Bob Catley album etc - it's a complete rehash of everything Magnus Karlsson has done before, and it just isn't interesting any more, not even with Jorn singing it.

...for some reason any of his projects outside of Masterplan (and of course Avantasia) I just find to be blah.
Then it will probably go over well with progressive metal audiences.

The Codex album was great, mostly because of Mark Boals' amazing voice. It works for me because I didn't pay any attention to any of those albums you listed above!![]()
Have you ever listened to Jorn's album Worldchanger? How about The Duke? If you haven't, try those two. They might help change your opinion of his solo material. I would not recommend anyone to start with either if his last 2, Lonely are the Brave or Spirit Black. They're good albums but they are nothing compared to his other solo work. If I knew how to post a video or an mp3, I would, but I'm a friggin' moron when it comes to that shit.I'm not dissing Jorn here, but for some reason any of his projects outside of Masterplan (and of course Avantasia) I just find to be blah. I think his singing is great but the songwriting I just don't enjoy. I've tried his solo stuff here and there as well as Allen/Lande and it just doesn't grab me.
