Wolverine

I've heard their first two. Pretty good stuff. It's basically just prog with the occasional death growls thrown in.

hmmm.. I did review the last Wolverine for the last update. It was something that definitely caught me by surprise. Very somber, yet very talented songwriting. I havent been that thrown back in a long time. I am now desperately seeking their early releases, if anyone has a inking of how to get a hold of them, please let me know...

I highly recommend the new album, the storyline deals with emotional violence and captures the feeling of being abused and neglected very well...musical reference points would include Anathema and Pain of Salvation.

Notman: Try the Elitist forum, several members of the band post there (one even posted the link to my analysis of the album.)

That's the problem with the new system of only listing the reviews in the forum section. Then I miss some of the new ones because they get bumped down so fast.

Old system ;) The new system, hopefully will have an A-Z listing as well :)

We just have to wait for Mark to figure out a way for us to help him move them over, after all, there are 800+ reviews to transfer!

I miss when UM was divided into the zine and the forum. I agree that having the reviews in the same format as the forums can get annoying, especially since it enables people to leave idiotic comments and it makes searching less than ideal...but the former is a natural result of the reviews being interactive, which is overall a good thing.

Hey JayKeeley!

You should check out Wolverine 'Cold Light of Monday' if you haven't already. It is sort of a combination (or at least related to) Savatage, Dream Theater, Queensryche, Anathema, and Porcupine Tree. It's progressive, but not in the technical sense. I really think you'd like it.

You can get it for $11 p/p at Earache.

"Cold Light of Monday" is a beautiful and bold album, though I still think "The Window Purpose" was about 10 times better. Still, it's an interesting new direction for Wolverine and one of my top albums from last year.

I agree, and now thanks to Wolverine, I think I figured out my major complaint with Pain of Salvation. The vocals on Wolverine seem to convey the right amount of emotion without falling victim of being over-dramatic. That's the issue I have with PoS - their singer sounds like he's about to break into tears each time he sings anything. :loco:

Yeah, this is great stuff. Glad you've got a good idea of what I like now. This was a solid recommendation. The first time I heard this was tonight in the car - I went out to get us some dinner, it was dark and raining, and the music just fit perfectly.

Great music for driving at night in the rain.

Wow. The songs, "Sarah" and "Carousel", from CLoD, are fucking brilliant! The end chorus on "Sarah" is particularly good, especially with those vocal harmonies. Shame it ends too soon, I could hear that chorus over and over. I'm really getting into this album, even though it's different to what I expected. It's pretty laid back, which is cool.

@Unsumed - let's get an interview set up!
