World Championship...(hockey)

Dearest LastPagan, may I point out to you that we don't have a fatherland, but rather a MOTHERland. Her name is Svea.
I have two daughters whom I love in equal proportions, but I love them each differently.
I have two brothers whom I love in equal amounts, but I love each one in a different way.
I have two fathers whom I love equally, but in different ways.
I have two homecountries, both of whom I love in equal amounts, only differently.
I have betrayed none of them.

Ohh, you're a real skald ;) (or :) i don't know which is appropriate)
Of course I know Moder Svea, my mother's family is from there.Me myself is Skåning, and that's almost a nationality of it's own. But we do call sweden fädernesland, too. Anyway, I was just kidding with you. Personally I see a big diference in a country like U.S.A. or Canada to a european one. I think that you can very well be multinational in cases like this, like AMerican Irish or whatever. It's just that if I was living in Canada, I'd be even more on Sweden's side in Hockey or sports in general, more just to be ... I dont know, kaxig, maybe?

He he...you've not seen kaxig until you've seen me in front of my hockey-fanatic Canadian husband when Team Sweden beats Team Canada!
Did you watch the game just now? That was my big brother patching up the linesman!

aaaah we're gr8!!!! i konow we'll win!!! huh....it'squite cool that small country like czech republic won against THE USA....now i have to hope that we'll win again and than again....we're gonna b champions! i think that hockey is the only thing i can b proud of as a czech...except beer:)

How about brodeur yesterday, against the slovaks? That penalty shot save was fucking incredible. The guy is without a doubt the best goalie in the NHL, and in the world as well for that matter. I'm a goalie too, so I know what i'm talking about.

And as for the shaky start for brodeur in the tournement; the guys used to playing in 70+ games a season with the new jersey devils. he needs lots of playing time to really get on a roll. after taking pretty much an entire year off of hockey, wouldnt you expect a bit of rust? not only is he coming back to hockey, but this is competitive ass hockey. its no longer just North American teams, this is national pride. lots of pressure. just watch, brodeur is going to steal the game for canada against the czechs....35+ shots and brodeur is going to demolish the czechs single handedly.

Tomasz, you're like a fucking army all on you own - you seem to travel on your stomach (or at least you have input on all foods from all the countries you've been to!). :worship:

That's why I said he was the wrong person to take, because someone who set out a year can't play good. And 3 of the 4 gaols against Slovakia were his fault, so9 he's still not playing very strong. And the best goalie of the NHL he clearly isn't, the last 2 season he jsut didn't play very well. I'd say Kiprusoff is probably the no.1 at the moment without doubt. Calgary never would have made it to the finals without him. And well Brodeur actually never really was the no.1 goalie when I come to think of it, because earlyer there also was Patrick ROy, and well he was without doubt the best goalie of that time, and well before that there was Dominik Hasek :)

Well ok Brodeur is playing a quite good match 'till now against the Russians, so lets hope he finally is back in form and lead them to the cup ;) Thornton and NAsh doing their jobs great like always ;)

LastPagan: Is Foppa playing in the Swedish league right now, and if so, for whom? He is hands down my favourite player (shhhhh - don't tell anyone - my husband is a Canucks fan, he hates him, cuz he was instrumental in beating the Cannots in the finals one year).

Kiprusoff had 1 good run...it doesnt make him the best goalie right now...giguere did that with the ducks last season, and now hes shit...brodeur has played amazingly his entire career. hes proven to be the best in the world.

yeah and that of someone who is like 13 :). Trust me Brodeur is a great goalie, but he never was the best, and I don't believe he ever will be. I was talking of the best goalie at the moment and logically that doesn't mean he needed to be the best goalie for the last 5 years, kiprusoff is the best at the moment, because he was the best last season. It's like Nash and Thornton, the seasons before they never amde the scorerlsit of the NHl, but last season both were under the best, ergo they are two of the best palyers in the world at the moment, and well the world championship until now has proven that :).
And trust me Martin Gerber is one of the best goalies at the moment, hes just not that big yet, but the way he has played the last 3 seasons is just amazing. And at this worldcup he had about a 95% save per shot average, and that just is a dreamquote for a goalie. Your just one of those typical fans who thinks Brodeur is the best because he is a big name, but there is many not so big goalies who are better. Brodeur ahs always been a goalie for the big saves, but with easy shots he had problems.
Long live Patrick Roy, fuck Brodeur, amen. And well yeah I am really drunk, but who cares, if you find mistakes you can keep them :)

It would appear you were drunk for every post you made in this thread. Based on your logic, the best goalie in the world as of right now is Vokoun...because hes had an amazing tournament. Thats bullshit. Playing a few good games does not make you the best at the moment. Brodeur has the stanley cups, the vezinas and olympic gold to proove he's the best. He's not patrick roy, but hes definitely close...And as they were saying during the game today, brodeur is better in international play...and roy is supposedly the favourite for NHL play. Right now, its Brodeur all the way...Why do you think he was named to that team anyways? and who would be the alternative?

What about Roberto Luongo of the Flordia Panthers, the Panthers average about 40 shots against in an average game. Or the kid from Pittsburgh.... ahh, what's his name, well whatever his name is? Both outstanding young goalies. And Keri Lehtonen is coming up to play with Atlanta in the upcoming season (whenever that may be). Hockey needs to get rid of Bettman and Goodenow both!

goulash isn't typical czech....but hockey is!!!!!
WE ARE THE CHMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!!
WE ARE THE BEST!!!!!
AND YOU ARE NOT:)ONLY WE ARE, WE ARE, WE ARE SOOOOOO GR8!!

TOMÁŠ VOKOUN IS THE BEST!!!!
HE'S THE RESON WHY WE WON 3:0 AGAINST canada....
GO CZECH GO, GO CZECH GO!!!!!

Nah Gerber had 2 amazing seasons with the Mighty Ducks, where he also ranked top 5 both times in the Goalie statistics, and way ahead of Brodeur :), and a great last season with Färjestads BK, and just before the lock out he was transfered to Columbus, so with him and Nash I'm sure we'll get some nice play :).
You're a typical North american hockey fan, who only sees the big names and the rest is bad. Brodeur is a great goalie, but he for sure isn't the best. He also in the NHL just always has some bad games in there. And yeah Canada proably had no other choice. Curtis Joseph and Ed Belfour would have been good too, but both probably hadn't played for a long time. And the best goalie at the moment is the best goalie at the moment, and not the best goalie of over the last 5 seasons. This is a game where the form the goalie is in counts, so Brodeurs vezinas of 5 seasons ago just don't count for that. Let's say it's the same as with Computers, the best computer of one month ago is outdated long ago (<-that being an extreme example).
You're argumentation is this: Media tells me Brodeur is the best, ergo Brodeur is the best.
And trailofdeath you are totally right, Luongo and I think Turku is the guy from Pittsburgh played extremely well the last few seasons.
And joanna, looks like I will have to resort to some extreme Canadian Hooliganism when I get to Praha :D

Point being, Tampa is still NHL champion ... going on 2 years now.
The NHL will be in a very sad state when and if season reopens later this year.
