The New Black is great. Alien is shit.

Really? I only like 4 or 5 of the tracks from The New Black, and 2 or 3 of those are at a stretch, so to speak (not including the Japanese bonus tracks, which I haven't heard). It just felt rushed and somewhat forced to me, and it did seem as though they only really made it for the sake of contractual obligations, so that would make sense, if that truly is the case.

As for Alien, apart from Info Dump, I consider the album to be very good, personally.

the new black only has like 3 or 4 good tracks. the rest are just filler.

concerning the solo stuff...ziltoid is an amazing album. songs like n9, solar winds and hyperdrive and the greys are just so awesome and fun to listen to. the melodies that devin comes up with are pretty impressive.

synchestra was crap - save for one song.

There were a couple of albums for me:

Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon. There are a few good songs on here (title track, ten thousand strong, the clouding) but why Schaffer insisted on padding the whole thing out with some supposedly 'epic' interludes I'll never know. It's a shame however, the previously mentioned tracks kick ass.

Nile - Ithyphallic. Not that bad, but it sounds to me like some stuff they had left over from AotW. I'm not a fan of the production either.

Arch Enemy - Rise of the Tyrant. Boring, stale riffing which lacks the awesome melodies the band used to come up with. I'm not the biggest fan of them so I can't say I'm disappointed, but yeah.

Ozzy Osbourne's needs no explanation, as does Hellyeah.

In terms of the new Down, I quite liked it. It's not as good as their previous two and Phil's voice is starting to go to shit, but it is still an enjoyable record nonetheless. Only problem is it gets a bit boring after repeated listens.

Fall Of The Leafe - Aerolithe
Total Death (Ecuador) - Desolate Recollections
Be'lakor - The Frail Tide

All suck in remarkably similar ways.

Wow. That's one of my favorite all time records. It is a little overblown, but I think that just adds to its grandiose nature. Did you like Battle Metal?

no, i don't like that kind of synth-laden stuff, except for Moonsorrow. i ind the stuff from Turisas cheesy as hell. i see no spirit behind all the pomp

Down 3(godawfully over-hyped turd on a platter, and don't even get me fucking started on Anselmo....)

Dying Fetus: War Of Attrition (for shitty production, though I thought the songs were decent)

Hellyeah (wtf?)

Those are about it....I liked the new Vital Remains and the new Behemoth, in fact...Icons is probably in my top 5 of '07. And the new Obituary is the best they've done in QUITE a while, in my opinion.
