I was thinking about making a Russian Metal Sampler CD for progpower this year. It would be mainly prog/power russian bands. Some sing in english some in russian. It would be strictly a burned cd in a slipcase with tracklisting and where you can buy the actual CDs from. The sampler would be free.

How many people would be interested in getting these? i wouldnt want them to go in the trash so I'd prolly just give them out while waiting at the front door to those that want them.

Personally, I would pass. While I appreciate your generous offer, I tend to leave ProgPower with a dozen CDs that I purchased and a bunch of stuff that friends burned for me. It would be months before I got around to listening to it. Additionally, I tend to stay away from bands who lack the funds to release a well recorded CD. I find that poorly recorded music frustrates me. And there is so much good music out there already, it's just so hard to check it all out.

Dont misunderstand. only my sample CD is burned. The bands Have very well produced professional CDs. This is just to give a sample of some of these great bands that most people have never even heard of due to bad distrubution outside of CIS territories. Some of the bands have sold millions of records worldwide. Others are up and comers but are charting in russia.

The production quality varies but all the bands are compareable to any prog or power releases availible.

Well, that certainly does sound more interesting. I'd probably be curious to check out such bands.

By the way, where are you from?

some band names that will for sure be on the sampler:

Aria
Catharsis
Epidemia
Arda
Conquest
Forgive me Not
Arida Vortex
Kipelov
Sergey Mavrin

not sure how many I can cram onto one CD. There are several really good russian prog and power bands, but they are sorley lacking mp3s so most people never hear of them. Aria is the largest rock band ever in russia, so they are the easiest to find anything from. Heck they sold a million records in a week in 1987 :) and of course they didnt get a dime.

I will make enough samplers based on the response here. and I will let you know where to find me in line to get one.

sounds cool to me too.... Conquest i saw and have a cd of but hey.... cool!
you saw Conquest? As far as I know they have only ever played a couple shows outside of the Ukraine. And those were in Moscow. Are you sure you saw the ukrainian conquest? If so how was the show?

They only have one CD so far called Endless Power. They play helloweenish power metal. Just to help verify we are talking about the same band.

Maybe throw on some Tvangeste and Forest Stream too? Also, Forest is quite good and Rakoth even though I know Foest would not appeal to most people here ... ;)
Tvangeste needs some recognition. They're one of the best black metal bands in today's scene.
