ive been listening to alot of that stuff but it i realise that although it does have some guitarwork its always mostly keyboards. im just asking because i dont know if i should keep them in my metal collection, or put them in my other music collection.

Call them/him what you want, who the fuck cares. I think the Broken EP is metal, the rest of his stuff industrial. People have scoffed at both those descriptions, fuck'em.

Genre battles are weak. Powerful weak.

This like with most broad genre descriptions, has no room to be argued. It is a solid fact within our mortal comprehension that Nine Inch Nails is industrial-tinged rock.

How hold your horses for just one second there! I don't think so.

Although it's weak in comparison to my usually sound backup, the Broken EP does 'sound' metal to me.

Even if some of a band's work sounds metal, the average sound of the band's discography seems to dictate whether they are metal or not. Look at metal bands who have released non-metal albums. Still considered metal as long as they continue to make it. Amorphis = rock. NiN released maybe a few metal sounding works here and there, but that definitely doesn't qualify them to be metal by any stretch of the imagination.

they're already out of my collection now. but im still keeping it of course because i love listening to it and i have an open mind about different genres.

btw broken definitely was metal.

Industrial kiddo.. you were probably still a test tube baby when NIN first came out but I grew up when it came out and it was considered Industrial... I have a open mind like most UM members do so dont think we dont have one.. you'd be surprised at what else people listen to other then metal on this board... anyways NIN's best albums are Broken, Pretty Hate Machine and Downward Spiral... if you like NIN then you will probably like Ministry as well...

I Like NiN, but they aren't metal sorry to break it to you and the others. Its mostly industrial, like kmfdm, ministry, rammstein.
