I can't begin to fathom why people like you ... of that's right, they don't.

But seriously, yes it's VERY cheesy. The keys make me cringe too at times but as a concept it's exceptional and in general it's a very impressive album.

I bought it because of Akerfeldt, La Brie and the Dev. The Dev is the highlight on Day Three: Pain. By far the best song on the album.

To paraphrase what you said from GMD, regarding mainstream bands: The attributes required to be popular are not desirable attributes to have. Thus being popular is not good.

P.S. I'm drunk, but can still type accurately, and with proper grammar/punctuation.

And I'm sure you read over that post before posting it in order to ensure that was the case.

When I listened to 01011001 for the first time I felt like I've heard this before. There's nothing amazingly new at all. The sounds are the same and there weren't any too catchy songs imo. Well the singers change but the bad thing is that the melodies are the so the same and I feel like Arjen makes especially the girls sound the same on every album.

have you listened to it more? ... because i absolutely disliked it the first times, and thought it was nothing new and that he lost his inspiration ...
however, now i love the album! yes there is a lot of things he has done before, but this album is kind of the culmination of everything he has done before and more. could very well be that this is the last one of this kind he made.
it is much more a growing album than the other ones. i forced myself to listen to it over and over again, and i like it even more than Human Equation now. although you can't really compare both, since the HE has so much more variation going on, while the new one aims at different things. they were made out of a different perspectives and with different goals ...
