It's sad that it has to be looked at as a succeed/fail proposition. "What happens if they don't become rich and famous?"

That's why I prefer it now that it's sort of impossible to make it in metal while playing anything more idiosyncratic than metalcore. People know what they're getting into, one would hope.

"There's no money to be made" is a dodge. Most bands make no money, true. And the ones that do seem to think, "I'm still struggling to make my money, so obviously I haven't made it yet!" with the sparkle of seeing Bruce Dickinson singing in a sold out auditorium fresh in their minds.

"Doing this is hard work, so I'm entitled to more than I'm getting," might be an explanation for some of the shenanigans we hear about.

Or maybe certain people are just dicks.
