WTF?? How does this happen?

Plus we have zero context for the recording. How far into the set is this? How many shows/days in a row? Is he sick? Is he drunk?
Singers both great and terrible blow their voices out all of the time. The problem with live recordings is that one bad video can erase a thousand flawless performances. Plus he surely wasn't that loud/exposed in the room.
 
Booze, drugs, wrong techniques over a long time, generally not taking care of your voice... and the inevitable ageing.

Edit: And yeah, + 1 to what Egan's been saying. Doesn't say much without knowing the context.
 
Reverb or no reverb it was still a bad performance

It's out of his range today, or he's suffering major vocal fatigue. I've had a pretty similar vocal effect in the past when I was singing stuff that was probably too high for me and had a sinus infection. It sucks.
