I'm just checking out some mp3s of this and a few parts of it have UNRULY similarity to Drudkh's new album! WTH?

The riff around 8:00 in the title track, Rota, sounds EXACTLY the same as some part of The Swan Road, and much of the intro track, Noitakansa, sounds at much like Drudkh also!

I had two of Wyrd's albums. Surprisingly, they didn't do anything for me. Just seemed very random.

Yep random is a word that comes to mind for me as well, Huldrafolk had its moments but I think the problem is that he is not skilled enough as a composer to keep it interseting.

"A less talanted and slightly doltish younger brother of Agalloch" or something to that effect would be an apt description I think

Rota's kind of all over the place composition-wise, so I'm inclined to agree with you guys. I like it though, I'll probably buy it anyways.

Dear Malefic:

Don't release any more music until you come up with something new and different. KTHXBYE. <3 Max

You know, "A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors" is a great release... everything else is merely okay..

"Nocturnal Poisoning" is the only one I have, I want the CDR of "A Gate..." cause it has awesome art (better than the gay suicide art on the re-release), and is a good album as well!

It's cause he says he's just refining and re-creating the same concept over and over, improving it. A lot of people could misunderstand that as stagnation. I never heard anything after "The Funeral of Being", or any of the splits, so I don't know!

Nocturnal Poisoning and A Gate Through Bloodstained mirrors are great, but he just has to stop "re-creating" the concept! (yes, old news) I've really lost my love for these "kvlt" USBM acts like Leviathan/Xasthur/Draugar recently. At least I'm pleased to see that Wrest is progressing with Leviathan (as is seen on the Xasthur/Lev split), but still- there is better music available.

On a side note: Wrest is releasing an ALL ambient vinyl through Profound Lore. His ambient stuff is usually pretty neat so I think I'll pick this up.

Xasthur unfortunately has gone drastically down hill in the last 2 1/2 years. A Gate.. Nocturnal Poisoning, and Suicide in Dark Serenity are all fucking killer. The problem is that the last 3 albums have been almost identical and became very stagnant. Although sadly im a whore for malefic and will probably continue to buy anything and everything he releases.
