I've seen lots of people here recommending these, but I'm curious as to what makes them so good. I would think adding an AD/DA conversion stage wouldn't be the most desirable thing, though my guess is that since the data is being sent digitally, it's not as susceptible to interference (and you certainly won't pick up airline traffic chatter with it either a la Spinal Tap  ). Any thoughts?

I think the higher end versions are compander-less, and their frequency response is pretty even, with the low end one being 20-12kHz, and nicer rack and pedal unit being 20-20kHz.

The dudes I know using them say they just sound better than any other wireless they've used and they don't have as much interference.

The only downside I've read is the cheaper pedal version is all plastic, and the bodypacks for any of the versions are plastic as well. The nicer pedal version is metal chassis, but the rack is plastic (with metal ears). And, they eat batteries more so than some other wireless units.

Cool dude, thanks! I think I'd go with the XDS-plus (the middle-ground one with the metal stompbox), and the plasticity of the body packs doesn't bother me as long as the belt clip is strong. The battery issue is a bit more annoying, as well as the price of the unit, so I may investigate other options (open to suggestions!), but it looks pretty good.

And what is/are (a) compander?
