XXX or 6505+

Hey guys

Here's the thing: I want to buy a new amp, I've heard and play the 6505 a lot, but I really don't know the XXX and it seems to be a good choice too (and cheap btw).

Which am is better IYO?.

To me the 6506 was tighter when AB'ing. The tone controlls on the XXX is active, so they have to be set alot lower. I'd say the XXX was a little smoother while the 6505 was cruchier. They blend nice, though....

the 6505 is a better all around amp it is great live and in the studio. the xxx is weird to record but still a crushing amp

They're just different amps. The XXX is far more versatile, IMO. Plus the 6505's gain channel is not really better, just different. It all really depends on which amp's tone you like the best.

The XXX has much better cleans, and is a bit more versatile. But it is more difficult to record than the 6505, which has much bigger low mids. The XXX can sometimes sound thin.

The XXX really benefits from having the preamp tubes swapped for lower gain ones. With the stock tubes in there's just far too much gain on tap, it's ridiculous.

Dude, "sometimes" just means you don't know the tonecontrolls well enough.
The amp records just fine.

Put the treble at 10.00 o clock and gain pretty low too. Go from there. I seem to remember bass should be put below 12.00 o clock somwhere.

The tone controlls is "suposed" to work like a Recto 3ch Red, cause it's kinda Peavys "Recto Copy".

The "new ones", called 3120 comes with EL-34 instead, but those are still the same apms with different looks.

Get both they compliment each other perfect. 6505 have more mids then the triple, while the triple is a little bit more scoped but are tight as hell
