YAMAHA SPX900 or plug ins?!?!?

hey guys!
a friend of mine sells a YAMAHA SPX900 19" effect processor from the 1980´ies.
i´ve heard that this was a studio standard gear back then and was used mainly because of the reverb and delay effects.

i´m wondering now if this processor ist still "over the top" and better then my WAVES reverb and delay plugins,or should i stay with them and forget the YAMAHA,cause it´s 20 years old?!?

do modern studios still use that thing?

for what i know it was the predecessor of the Spx 990 which is very used on live gigs, pretty good sounding unit

if i had a plugin that would sound half as good as an SPx I'd be down with it! gues it doesn't make your mixing easier if you're gonna be doing reverb outboard but I love the sound of the snare plates and gated reverbs of the SPX

I use to have the SPX-90, and that one was not nearly up to par as the waves plugins. Loved the pitch shifting, but besides that...

oh cool,two absolutely contrary opinions...that makes it easy

i´ve seen pros using them for their delays,but i´m mostly interested in the REVERBS.
