you can't play this

LOL at the people who say they can play this without proving it. As far as I'm concerned, you're lying until you post videos.

Dead Winter nailed it.

You guys are so full of shit

"That's not hard, I could play that" is the ultimate cop out answer for any band someone dislikes, ESPECIALLY Meshuggah. I challenge any of you to actually record yourself correctly playing that and post it here.

They have a fuck load of songs I can't play. MANY. The 25 seconds I listened to of this one I could, no I'm not going to post a video to prove it. Especially while I'm in the condition I'm in now. If you don't believe me I really don't give a fuck.

Then scenarios like this are the perfect opportunity to keep your mouth shut.

The thing is, "Bleed" is the most straightforward song on their new album.

I'm not saying that no one can play it...my drummer could play that, but not because he's a great guitarist, but because his mind for rhythms is on par with Meshuggah-style music.

Every riff he comes up with he has to show me and it takes a while for me to wrap my head around it. The interview said it all: most guitarists show you how to play a "regular" type riff (for lack of a better word), this is the effect, etc. But this is more of a lesson in rhythms.

I just saw Meshuggah at Metal Camp and it's so mind-boggling that even if they fucked up, you'd never know it. To play Meshuggah, you cannot think like a guitarist.

I am tuned down to standard D (six string) and I can "play" the intro/main riff but those triplets kill me! I won't lie, it goes against everything my brain allows me to do. I definitely couldn't play that whole song in one take. They are good guitarist in their own respect, as I wouldn't expect them to be able to play the stuff I am able to play and visa versa.

That's saying a lot coming from quite possibly the best guitarist on the board.

You hit the nail on the head. It's nothing to do with stamina, dexterity, or "feel". It's cold, clinical, and precise...and it fucks you if you don't have the mind for it. It doesn't make a person a great or shitty guitarist if one can/can't play Meshuggah. I guarantee you that they can't shred like Malmsteen, but I also guarantee you that Malmsteen probably would have some difficulty playing their stuff as well.

It's all mental. You either have it or you don't.

I have NO idea why, but that's how I just read that hahaha

hahahaha

and this reminded me of some song from Veggietales I heard long ago where the vegetable sings a song about this cheeseburger he loves. But he can't get it because the drive through is closed.
