hmm...well, my experience with spats is that they protect the shine of the shoe, although i can't figure out why Scrooge McDuck wears them right on his flippers. and it seems to me cowboys wouldn't care too much about bootshine. maybe to keep the dust out of the tops of the boots?

i think it probably suits the dust/snow guard theory better, but who's to say leg warmers don't prevent city vermin from draining the delicate calf of girl blood?
