You were partially correct actually, as it can mean a female swede. So to confuse you a bit more, all the following are correct: Han är svensk (adjective, singular), hon är svensk (adjective, singular), de är svenska (adjective, plural), hon är svenska (noun, singular), de är svenskor (noun, plural).
