Your 1st Ass kicking rock band...

First band was guns'n'posers when i was 9, my dad gave me teh Appetite for destruction tape and i loved it...now i can't stand that fuckin' band. Later, i got into Alice in Chains and Led Zeppelin almost at the same time and i still love and respect them very much.

For me, it was Green Day. The Dookie album. I think the majority of my friends started off with Green Day too. Although I also listened to The Beatles when I was a kid, under 10. First metal I got into would be Metallica.

I few years ago, I listened to a lot of hip-hop (I still do, actually... some of it is awesome), commercial R'n'B (all of which is about 2 good songs and a pants set of filler tracks per album), chart music in general...

Then, like many people my age, I heard some nu-metal and thought it was pretty cool. But I was never as big into it as my friends were. I thought it was ok, and I listened to it, but it didn't really grab my attention as much as some folk (always hated Korn though).

I always loved music, but the first record that really, REALLY turned me into the music lover that I am was 'Under The Pink' by Tori Amos. Not 'ass-kicking', or 'rock', but that was the first thing that I really heard and thought 'fuck me, this is AMAZING'. Changed my life completely.

For 'ass-kicking'... I guess Opeth really was the first. I had liked metal, but Opeth were probably the first metal band I ever heard that I liked then and still like now (apart from maybe Deftones). That was how I weaned myself onto DM vox, and really heavy riffs. 'Blackwater Park' blew my mind then, and still does to this day. I wouldn't be as into metal as I am if Opeth hadn't given me a gateway. So... cheers, guys! :D

Probably either Queen, Whitesnake or Bon Jovi

Haha Whitesnake and Bon Jovi. Those were my first two hard-rock albums.

Then I saw the video for Metallica's "One" and became a fan of metal.

Queen
i used to listen to greatest hits 1 and 2 in my dad's car when we didn't have a working stereo at home. i must have been 11 or something. after that i had to do the same thing with the classical music tapes that i bought for a while.

What was the name of the band who first got you into Rock/Metal

For me it was 'Steppenwolf.'

2 tracks from the "Easy Rider" soundtrack album, "The Pusher" + "Born to be Wild" :heh:

Struth, that was a while back.

Sorry if this is a topic already discussed.

Way you go Guys/Gals... :headbang:

PSOT, I love Mike's pre encore trivia quizzes. lol.

yea mine probably was too. Magic carpet ride is an amazing song!!! John Kay is a pretty brilliant song-writer and slide guitarist.
Funnily enough though John Kay/Stepenwolf didn't write Born to be wild though, it was a folky type guy by the name of Mars Bonfire.....
