List your fav riffs here, just for the hell of it. Mine are many, but what immediately comes to mind is:

Aqualung - Tull
Moby Dick - Led Zep
Space Truckin - Deep Purple
Foxey Lady - Hendrix
Highway to hell - AC/DC
Man on the Silver Mountain - Rainbow
Ripper - Priest (the opening notes send shivers down my spine)

Maiden's "Where Eagles Dare" (all of it) has been stuck in my head for the past 18 years.

Coroner - About Life (pretty much every riff in the whole song:worship: )
Nevermore - Poison Godmachine
Anacrusis - Sense Of Will
Anacrusis - Injustice
Coroner - Divine Step
Coroner - Son Of Lilith

There's way too many to name all, I could keep going for days:D

For driving the best riff I've ever heard is Dahlia by X Japan. Its pretty much impossible to go the speed limit with that song on.

My favorite riff ever I'm going to have to go with something simple and say Beyond the Pale by Pain of Salvation. Just because it means that Beyond the Pale is on.

I think my fave riff of all time comes from the riff-master himself: Tony Iommi

That hook he wrote for Symptom of the Universe is about as good as it gets! If you haven't heard it in awhile, I encourage you to re-visit and bask in its anvil-heavy glory! If you have never heard it, pull that pacifier out of your mouth, drop your rattle and crawl off to the nearest record store to buy the Black Sabbath album Sabotage.

Children of the Grave (basic, but archetypal)
Black Sabbath (the song)
The opening Riff of The Funeral Portrait by Opeth.
Hard to choose the right AC/DC, but Soundmaster's choice is good. Still, I'll have to say, from the same album, the riff AFTER the opening riff of Walk All Over You. Just cooks.
Battery - Metallica

A million more.

Chemistry by Susperia
Crazy Train by Ozzy
MARY JANE by Megadeth
Medusa by Anthrax
Fear Of THe Dark By Iron Maiden
Pisschrist by Fear Factory
90 percent of all power metal write insanely catchy riffs
Hero by Nightrage
Princess Of The Night by Saxon
Blinded By Fear by At THe Gates
Dead Eternity by Inflames
Food For The Gods by Inflames
Embody The Invisible by Inflames
Pinball Map by Inflames

*scratches head* did you mean "Trooper"?

I agree with "Where Eagles Dare" man, the riffing and drums are just killer!

And I agree with the Sabbath sentiment.

If I listed out my top 10 riffs (which I won't, so don't even beg! :p ) Tony Iommi would've written more than half of them....

Nearly every riff off the first 2 Ratt albums! Lay It Down, You're In Love, Wanted Man, Round & Round, You're In Trouble, What You Give Is What You Get, Never Use Love, Give It All, Back For More... Those 2 albums are chock full of em!

Some others:
Accept - Balls To The Wall (Most thumpin' metal riff of all time!)
Stage Dolls - Love Cries (Super melodic!)
Treat - Gimme One More Night (See above!)
KISS - Shock Me (Ace at his finest)
Poison - Look What The Cat Dragged In (Dirty & Trashy! This song is thumpin' to play live!)
AC/DC - Back In Black (Ultimate "air guitar" riff)
Def Leppard - Photograph (I can just picture Steve's low-slung white Les Paul on In The Round right now!)

That opening riff to 'Holy Wars' is always a good one. There are quite a few good riffs in that song.

The opening to 'Hall Of The Mountain King' is classic!!:headbang:

iron maiden - seventh son of a seventh son
megadeth - tornado of souls
nevermore - the river dragon has come
children of bodom - everytime i die
machine head - descend the shades of night:p
