I need to bough a couple of snares for studio use.

What your go to snare for studio use?
I need a wood snare and a metal snare (or brass, or any kind of material for that) for cover various possibility.
So what your go to snare, you think every studio will need to have?

Thanks

PS: budget is between 300 and 800 euros/per snare

Jeff Ocheltree Carbon Steel 6.5x14
Lars Ulrich Bell Brass
Pearl Chad Smith
(believe it or not) PDP Ace

I apparently don't like wood snares....

Oh, wait! Pearl Vinnie Paul.

Pearl Sensitone Elite Custom Alloy!
(I've just recorded this again for my own band, damn, without any processing this is already one of the best sounding snares I*ve heard, lol.....

closely followed by a Ludwig (forgot the model) and the Mapex Black Panther Birdseye Maple

The best snares I've used (and I've tracked a LOT of them):

Ludwig Black Beauty 6.5x14"
Ayotte Keplinger Steel with Wood Hoops 6x14"
Ludwig Supraphonic 6.5x14"

I also use a Dunnett Steel 6.5x14" quite a bit.

The Keplinger is my all-time favorite, it's just a damn beast. Very hard to find though.

The Ludwigs are just instant great snare tone. The Black Beauty sounds beefier and the Supraphonic sounds a little brighter. Both are great for almost any genre.

The Aluminum one or the Brass one? I'm gonna guess Brass because that's typically what ends up sounding awesome, but I've heard of some Aluminum snares really sounding awesome.

could also be the copper model, steel, or the stainless steel model... or even the bronze model, haha nondrummers and their vague drum specs....

back to OP, you can't go wrong with the industry standard Ludwig Black Beauty.
all the ripoffs have rolled/welded shells, whereas the BB is a spun shell, apparently thats where the tonal difference is!

personally if i was to build the ultimate collection of studio snares for all purposes it'd look like this:

14x6.5 pearl reference maple/birch 20ply snare
14x6.5 ludwig black beauty
14x6.5 tama bell brass (or similar)
14x8 vinnie paul (or similar)
some sort of 12"/10" snares for poppy stuff etc.
maybe a piccolo or two..

Thanks for all this new imputs, it's great!!!
Black beauty are to my go to list, love it pitched up but not with too much ring.

@JamesNorman: already used one for a session. Too "pingy" for my taste (hope that make sence).

just found out that my sensitone elite actually is a black beauty...
apparently Ludwig let the patent protection slip and pearl built the same snare with that model...explains why it sounds so fantastic ;)
