Your favourite piece of (your own) music

Whilst my technique and theoretical knowledge has improved heaps since then (I'd only been playing 2.5yrs at the time) I have struggled to come up with anything that I felt hit me as hard.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEnqI57BVYY

I never solo with arpeggios or sweeps myself, but how many hours per day and how you did practise, seemed to be efficient way. I've always wondered these rocket like learning curves. Any particular material or books involved back then when you started? Just considering to post something to this thread too haha...

I kinda fell into it by accident. Basically spent my whole life playing rugby, at international rep level, and then fractured nine facial bones in some foul play. Told no more rugby forever, so I grabbed some total guitar and guitar techniques mags and read in hospital for a long time. I had to replace my strict training regiment with something as disciplined. Never even had a guitar. Got a friend to teach me some nirvana riffs which I was terrible at, and the 6 months into owning a guitar I got into dream theater. Rest is history.

I just worked out to rock discipline and dt riffs, all with a metronome. Some days I was playing 12hrs/day which has actually been terrible for my arms and back. Chromatic exercises, and building speed with accuracy to a metronome is the best way to get the chops IMO. I still class myself as a terrible guitar player as I just haven't had the volume of time to adjust to manipulating it exactly the way I want and need to. Honing your focus is key. I would take any exercise and start at 60bpm. Play it through three times perfectly and speed the metronome up 4bpm. Make a fuck up, even on the last note of the third time through and slow it down 8bpm. Torturous I know, but really gets you in the zone.

Anyways, some good shit in here guys. Keep it coming.
