Your take on AxeFx?

Ohh, let's use the Axe FX II in front of the 5150 rather than just using the 5150.
Wouldn't want to be able to easily get a good sound that will shit all over everything we've done in the past without worrying about bullshit and over complicating everything

Maybe he heard it in a bad room in the first place? Don't over analyze, people can change their minds :) I know, I do all the time.

I just find it kinda funny that someone who has always claimed to not like 5150s & Mesa cabs and even wrote an article for metalsucks.net about 4x12s supposedly being a thing of the past would suddenly change his mind so drastically.

I'm thinking the amount of critics they get from places like this very forum have a lot to do with that decision.

Then again, I think I read that Nolly was helping produce this time. That might have something to do with it also, as he still posts here now and then, unlike Misha.

He probably meant the 4x12 to be a thing of the past when it comes to live use. Why bring a 4x12 on tour when you can hook a axe fx direct to the PA? Speaks for itself.

I don't think the Axe-II was a big improvement in amp simulation. That being said the amp simulation in the Axe-Fx Standard was already awesome. The only problem I have with Axe-Fx is that the cab block affects the tone too much. Take a look at this video I made:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1DX3SGeA1w

All the amp sims sound very similar since they are going through the same Redwirez IR. Is this realistic? Really? So a Marsha will sound just like a Diezel VH4 or a Recto if they are going through the same cabinet? I doubt that.

I wouldn't hesitate to use an AxeFx on stage; I'm not as picky about digital tones live than I am in the studio. The way I see it, is if you have the time and resources to get the best possible sound you can for something that is going to become the definitive 'sound' of an album to be played back to however many people buy the record, you'd use real amps, not imitations of those amps. On stage, who gives a fuck, the Axe is definitely close enough there.

Can't disagree with this at all. :kickass:

Although I'm inclined to pick a cheaper unit.
