Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
Nick Drake
Peter Gabriel (Genesis)

Jim Morrison (The Doors)
Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)
Mike Patton (a lot of projects)
Layne Staley (Alice in Chains)
Nick Cave
Jonas Renkse
David Bowie
John Lennon (The Beatles)

This is a tough one...I actually wanted to place Michael Jackson in here even, but...I don't know (his vocals are sometimes beyond amazing then they downright suck on the softer side.)

In no order;

Ville Valo | HIM
Garm | ULVER
Mikael Akerfeldt | Opeth
Simen Hestnaes | Arcturus/Dimmu Borgir
Rowan London | Virgin Black

I had to leave Jonas out...he'd be in the TOP 6, though.

I can understand all 4 being considered better than Jonas but I really can't get ville valo_Ok he is a good singer but what's the big deal anyway?I think he is nowhere near Jonas.

@Mourner: Well, I guess it's his range...Jonas more or less sounds the same all the time (even though he IS magnificent for conveying such incredible emotion.) Valo seems to have like 4 different vocal styles - VERY deep, deep, high-pitched and somewhere between - and the transitions from each is incredibly hard to do. I like what he does with his voice. (ex. check out his style on songs like Gone with the Sin and Join Me (deep and high) whereas Right Here in my Arms is completely different to those. Ok, I'm going into too much detail as usual here....

And crap...David Gilmour, Thom Yorke, John Lennon and David Bowie all deserve a RESPECTABLE nod, for sure. Aargh...as well, Mick Moss and Vince Cavanagh. Really, too many to name.

1. Jonas Renkse (Katatonia), I'm starting to notice a pattern here :)
2. Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth, Bloodbath)
3. Björn Speed Strid (on Soilwork - A Predator's Portrait, Natural Born Chaos)
4. Guillaume Bideau & Pierrick Valence (on Scarve - Irradiant, Guillaume's vocals on the new Mnemic are downright HORRIBLE)
5. Stu Block (Into Eternity)
6. Jochem Jacobs (Textures - Drawing Circles)

Something like that. I've probably skipped a few. Maybe Steve Wilson should be in there as well.

1. Jonas Renkse (Katatonia)
2. Agnete M Kirkevaag (Madder Mortem)
3. David Eugene Edwards (16 Horsepower)
4. Maynard James Keenan (Tool)
5. Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)

Probably my top 5 bands too...

Till Lindemann (Rammstein)!!!!!
Jonas (Katatonia)
Devin Townsend (DTB, SYL)
Gavin (Dredg)
Ben (Sybreed)
Dez (DevilDriver)
Alexx (Eisbrecher)
