YT: Seymour Duncan pickup test!

Awesome vid! Too bad there's no AHB2 or 3.. aren't those their ''most metal'' pups?
Would have loved to hear how they compare to the rest (specially since I use the 2, which has the dual config).

And another vote on the JB :D

...until I tried Blackouts. I still hate EMG though.

Same here haha - I'm still willing to give 81s yet another chance on an EC-1000 next year.

its in a jackson v (alder) but there always seems to be some mud and wierd fizz. I loved the distortion but got a bad case of gas from all the hype blackouts had when I bought them. Guess I just prefer passives really, I liked the dimebucker too, which surprised me!

keep in mind new strings improve the sound veeeeeery much.

my month old strings sound 10 times worse than when i've changed them.
they sound much fizzy and muddy so consider changing them.

Hey Ola,

it would be priceless to have this same kind of comparison for neck pickups / lead tones. Is there any chance of getting the guys from Seymour Duncan to send you those... Hell, if that'll help I'm sure that we can all sign a petition here for that matter! :D

(Guys, thumbs up if you're with me!)

who knows what happens at Namm!

I alreay wanted to leave that grumpy smiley 'cause no one supported my idea! :D

Well, for the sake of all of us I certainly hope it's doable... The original review of rhythm tones that you've done is already an indispensable resource, not only for guitarist but for engineers and producers too. I also hope that guys at SD will realize the marketing potential in this. :) (I'm fine with advertising, as long as the product being advertised is worth of buying!)

Cheerz mate, and thanks!

Ola,

Any chance next time you do a pickup comparison like this again that you might do a take with the tone turned all the way off?

While this is a really good shootout, I must say that having different guitars is not that 'fair'. All pickups should have been mounted in the same guitar. :)

6 string, 7 string, and 8 string pickups aren't going to fit in the same guitar.

That Alt8 is definitely wired either out of phase or with only one coil active - no way that's the actual sound of it. I love that pickup stock, and have an Alt8 with an A5 mag in my Stinnett as my main 'metal' guitar. Love it to death.

Thank you, Captain Obvious. :Spin:
Why do a 6,7&8 string pickup comparison all at once? If someone has for example a 7 string guitar, he will only benefit from 7 string pickup clips, 6 string ones doesn't matter at all, if you get my meaning. If I want to hear a difference between Blackout7 and Distortion7 (and even assuming that B7 actually sounds exactly like B8, minus that 1 string), I couldn't do that here properly, because they were mounted in different guitars.
You guys are way more anal when it comes to all those converter, amp, preamp, etc. comparisons, so then why don't be the same way here? :)

I don't want to take anything away from Ola and his informative vidz, all props to him. Just sayin'

@demisephil:
even if they were all fitted in the same type of body, it still was a different guitar, so it's not the best possible comparison. Keep in mind that these are passives, so the piece of wood they were fitted in actually matters a lot. ;)
