Exactly. but they simply have nothing to do with the accepted laws of physics.. they're simply interpretations that aren't based on scientific facts.
maybe you got confused or smt, but astronomy has a lot to do with physics, it's part of it...

No Im not talking about the song by famed Chicago metal act Macabre. I am wondering what zodiac sign you are , and if you buy into any of that stuff?

I am a Saggitarius, I think I have alot of traits of a Saggitarius: I like to travel, I mediate alot of fights, I am jovial :D,etc, etc.

Nick
I buy into it as much as I buy into tarot. :D I did some reading ahead here and regret missing most of the meat of this thread. Here's my take on astrology.

I am a: http://www.astrology.com/allaboutyou/sunsigns/leo.html

But this means little to me as much as I understand about astrology. On one hand, I have a great snippet of what my personality *should* be like according to...whatever astrologists call their research, yet I'm quite seperate from many of the major qualities listed. The traits fit, but not quite right. To break this down further, I could take a look at my sun sign, the exact position of the moon at the time of my birth, as well as peek at the exact positions of ALL of the zodiac at my birth. I'm going to come up with quite different and detailed results.
For example:
Sun sign qualities: http://www.astrology.com/allaboutyou/sunsigns/leo2.html
Moon: "Your Moon is in Pisces
</I>
</B></I>
Tenderhearted and sympathetic to an unusual degree, you have an understanding of other people's feelings and needs which borders on being telepathic. You are extremely compassionate and cannot bear to see any fellow creature - be it human or animal -suffer. Because of your kindness and nonjudgmental attitude, people in pain or confusion are drawn to you for help, which you readily give. Sometimes your softheartedness is taken advantage of.

You are a gentle, poetic soul and have a great love and affinity for music. Because many of your feelings are nebulous and vague and you cannot easily verbalize how you experience life, music seems a natural language for you. You are also tremendously romantic and are often "in love with love".

Or, of course we could go into ALL the nitty gritty details: http://www.ebroadcast.com.au/horoscope/astrology_terms.html and start looking at what houses my sign is in at the time of birth and the effects that a star shining over China may have had on my childhood.

Now we're talkin'; but I like complicated things. :D It still doesn't instill a distinct FAITH on astrology simply because I'm well aware of more conventional practices to predicting my human behavior: http://keirsey.com/personality/nfip.html

See the difference? Just for the records, NEITHER (astrological OR "scientific") one description fits the exact person of what I am. But back to my point: the original point of astrology was not to predict human behavior. The purpose astrology was created was to predict *well-being* - especially for the royalty of the ... oh, here: http://www.touregypt.net/astro/. Comparisons are based on how well that particular sun sign did on that month, day, hour, etc PRIOR to the prediction. Which is still how horoscopes are generated. Last year, my particular sign and person (complete with matching moon, houses, planets and sun) on THIS DAY, I had a rather crummy day. Year before that, crummy. And before that? Crummy. (One would need diaries to achieve this, I dug them out solely for this post) But TODAY was actually a great day for me. Is it because I expected trauma and learned from past experiences and put them to work? You betcha. Now you have an idea of how astrology works. You can throw that tooty fruity divination out the window - predictions are based on past experiences and how much I've learned to scope, yearn, and work for well-being. :) It's a farmer's almanac in sun/moon encrusted theories.

Astrology is speculations, contrasts, and comparisons. At one point it was considered science because it was all we had to attempt to predict how well we were going to be. As others have pointed out in this thread: you're only as good as you allow yourself to be.

But remember, others born within the same time frame as you have made poorer decisions. :)

FYI: Leos are known to give ten dollar answers for two cent questions.

Keep the change. :)

it's the "nitty gritty details" that are important; the general zodic sign does not tell much. plus, it's the position of the various planets in the 12 house that tells the actual story. also, it's not the star over china that is important for you unless you're born there......... - and yes, i understood it was only an ironic remark, but i find it quite sad that people (still) make fun of something that they do not, cannot or don't want to understand :(

But back to my point: the original point of astrology was not to predict human behavior
that's right. the individual horoscope is the captured moment of birth. these constellations tell how you are at birth and what you would be like, if you wouldn't develop and learn. on the positive side: it's a picture of the person and his potential, based on the natal horoscope.
I have no idea, why and who in the first place started to call a horoscope being a prediction  it only shows a person's inclinations.
if you read (hopefully not the daily horoscope from a life-style magazine etc.): "today you are endangered to have an accident" , then most would interpret "i was meant to have one. but i havn't. so it's all bullshit." - wrong! certain constellations showed only an inclination (according to your innated prerequisites) to behaviour that would eventually lead to an accident. but since you were attentive (consciously or subconsciously) or didn't even meet this situation, you avoided it

As others have pointed out in this thread: you're only as good as you allow yourself to be.
nothing else does the sentence "stars don't force you, they only make you inclined" mean.
one can choose to be/remain an asshole or try to work on himself and develop.

Here's what some website has to say about my sign.

On the good side:

Patient and reliable
Warmhearted and loving
Persistent and determined
Placid and security loving

On the dark side....

Jealous and possessive
Resentful and inflexible
Self-indulgent and greedy

Anything that calls me "placid" or "patient" has to be wrong.

Traditional
Scorpio Traits

Determined and forceful
Emotional and intuitive
Powerful and passionate
Exciting and magnetic

On the dark side....

Jealous and resentful
Compulsive and obsessive
Secretive and obstinate

Scorpios are the most intense, profound, powerful characters in the zodiac.

I think that is all I need to say on this :p

pisces

good:
Imaginative and sensitive
Compassionate and kind
Selfless and unworldly
Intuitive and sympathetic

bad:
Escapist and idealistic
Secretive and vague
Weak-willed and easily led

i wonder: what's good about "unworldliness", and what's bad about being idealistic?

The Leo type is the most dominant, spontaneously creative and extrovert of all the zodiacal characters. In grandeur of manner, splendor of bearing and magnanimity of personality, they are the monarch's among humans as the lion is king of beasts. They are ambitious, courageous, dominant, strong willed, positive, independent, self-confident there is no such a word as doubt in their vocabularies, and they are self-controlled. Born leaders, either in support of, or in revolt against, the status quo. They are at their most effective when in a position of command, their personal magnetism and innate courtesy of mind bringing out the best of loyalty from subordinates. They are uncomplicated, knowing exactly what they want and using all their energies, creativeness and resolution to get it, as well as being certain that they will get whatever they are after. Their followers know where they are with Leonians. Leonians think and act bigger than others would normally dare; the ambitiousness of their schemes and idealism sometimes daunt their followers, their practical hardheadedness and ability to go straight to the heart of any problem reassures those who depend on them. If Leonians meet with setbacks they thrive on the adversity. :p
